About Mr Eggo Collectible Glass Object
Mr Eggo is a collectible glass object made by hand in an Istanbul atelier. The design combines an egg-shaped body with a dense spiral that wraps around the form. Mr Eggo is shaped while the glass is hot, at 1200 degrees Celsius, using traditional mouth-blown techniques and metal tools. Multi-stage polishing and controlled cooling give the surface high optical clarity. The spiral appears to change rhythm when the object is viewed from different angles. Each colour is produced in a limited edition of 20 pieces. The form draws on the dome of Hagia Sophia and on the egg as a symbol of potential.
Marquisate Contemporary Blown Glass's Mr Eggo Collectible Glass Object emerges from rich traditions of studio glass that trace lineage through the revolutionary Studio Glass Movement of the 1960s, which liberated glass from industrial and functional constraints to embrace sculptural expression and individual artistic vision, positioning this material within fine art contexts previously reserved for bronze, stone, and other traditional sculptural media. The technical achievement on display speaks to mastery of demanding hot glass processes requiring precise thermal control, material timing, and physical coordination, with the clear glass element demonstrating exceptional optical quality free from seeds, bubbles, or striations that would compromise transparency, while the colored applications exhibit sophisticated understanding of compatible glass chemistries that prevent cracking during annealing and achieve stable chromatic presence. The compositional success of presenting these two forms in visual conversation rather than isolation creates narrative dimension, inviting viewers to perceive relationship, dialogue, perhaps even personality in the gestural differences between the soaring vertical energy of the amber-crowned transparent form and the settled, embracing curves of the cobalt-wrapped pink volume. Chromatic decisions reveal deep understanding of color theory applied three-dimensionally, with the warm amber and cool cobalt establishing maximum visual vibration where they approach each other across the compositional gap, while the mediating pink volume prevents chromatic discord and introduces tonal subtlety that sophisticated color deployment requires. The flowing ribbon elements demonstrate particular technical accomplishment, requiring molten glass manipulation at precise temperature windows where material remains pliable yet stable enough to hold sculptural gesture, these calligraphic trails recording the glassmaker's choreographed movement in enduring form. Thematically, the work celebrates material transformation, the alchemical wonder of silica rendered liquid through fire and shaped through breath and gravity into forms that capture and transmit light, embodying both ephemeral fluidity frozen in permanent stasis and the joyful invention possible when technical mastery serves playful imagination. The suggestion of character or personality in these abstract forms invites anthropomorphic reading, the left form perhaps more reserved, architectural, and structured while the right form appears more organic, embracing, and grounded, though such interpretations remain open to individual viewer projection. The deliberate presentation as paired objects rather than singular statement creates opportunities for contemplation of relationship, complement, conversation across difference, and the visual richness that emerges from juxtaposition rather than isolation. Art historical echoes might include the biomorphic abstraction of sculptors working in the mid-twentieth century who sought organic rather than geometric formal vocabularies, the color sensibilities of painters who understood hue as emotional and spatial language, and the material honesty of craft traditions that celebrate rather than conceal the properties and working methods of chosen media. One might observe how light itself becomes sculptural material here, not merely illuminating these forms but being shaped, bent, transmitted, and reflected by them, creating secondary chromatic events in the shadows and highlights that shift with viewing angle and illumination conditions, inviting extended contemplation of how we perceive color as both surface property and световой phenomenon.

- Production Technology
- Produced at 1200 degrees Celsius in our Istanbul atelier using Kristalika glass, each piece is hand-crafted through traditional mouth-blown techniques with the aid of specialized metal tools. After shaping, it undergoes a multi-stage polishing and controlled cooling process to maximize optical clarity and surface quality
- Design Challenge
- The main challenge was preventing cracks caused by the stress between the dense spiral and the slender egg-shaped main body during the hot glass formation process. This required developing a proprietary technique and conducting extensive testing to ensure structural stability while maintaining the intended aesthetics. Additional challenges included achieving compatibility between color codes produced in different chemical compositions, controlling kiln temperatures, and maintaining optimal ambient conditions. Due to the chemical differences between locally produced and imported glass colors, we selected brands with more advanced properties, identifying specific tones that matched the required codes through extensive meetings and consultations, and imported them ensuring that no stage of the production process was left to chance.
- Project Duration
- The project started in July 2023 and was completed in January 2025
- Operation Flow
- The egg shaped main body, encircled by the spiral, changes its rhythm when viewed from different angles, offering a constantly shifting visual experience. With its concept and aesthetics, it adds meaning to the atmosphere.
- Research
- This project merges traditional glassblowing craftsmanship with contemporary sculptural design, focusing on the dynamic interaction between form and viewer perception. The integration of a dense spiral around a slender main body was achieved through a proprietary hot glass technique developed to control stress during formation. Produced with Kristalika glass at 1200 degrees Celsius in our Istanbul workshop, each piece underwent advanced polishing for a flawless finish. The result emerged from an extensive R&D process, where every detail from color codes to gram specific glass composition was rigorously tested. This method delivers a refined balance between form and tension, enhancing both the tactile engagement and the artistic value of the limited edition collectible.
- Inspiration
- Inspired by the dome and intricate motifs of Hagia Sophia one of the finest examples of the ancient architecture hosted by Istanbul’s storied lands Mr. Eggo embodies a contemporary interpretation of traditional mouth-blown glass, giving form a distinct identity. Drawing on the egg as a universal symbol of potential and the spiral as the code of the cosmos, it explores the continuity of rebirth. With its sculptural presence, it awaits to be understood through a tactile and visual dialogue.
