About MCC Shengshi International Plaza Multifunctional Building
MCC Shengshi International Plaza is a mixed-use building complex in Zhuhai, Guangdong, China. The complex stands on Hengqin Island, close to the Lotus Bridge that links to Cotai, Macau. The development contains two high-rise office towers, a retail podium, a rooftop garden and a pool. The streamlined form is inspired by the cruising movement of the dragon fish. The facade design refers to wind waves and uses wave-shaped aluminium plates that provide shade and support energy saving. Green roofs improve insulation and reduce heat gain on the top floor.
Situated within the evolving discourse of contemporary architectural practice that seeks to reconcile functional efficiency with expressive sculptural presence, MCC Shengshi International Plaza Multifunctional Building by Aedas demonstrates a refined approach to tower design that transcends conventional orthogonal vocabularies through the introduction of flowing curvilinear geometries that appear to respond organically to environmental and programmatic forces, the composition achieves remarkable coherence despite the formal diversity of its constituent towers by maintaining consistent horizontal banding across all volumes creating visual unity while allowing each element to assert individual character through its unique silhouette and curvature, technically the work exhibits sophisticated command of curtain wall systems and facade engineering where the continuous horizontal striations wrap seamlessly around complex curved surfaces suggesting advanced parametric modeling and careful coordination between design intent and constructability, the warm terracotta podium establishes a humanizing base that mediates between street-level experience and the ascending tower forms above evoking associations with earthen materiality and crafted surfaces that ground the technological sophistication of the glass towers in more tactile architectural traditions, thematically the complex appears to explore notions of urban integration metropolitan identity and the possibilities for architectural form to embody both corporate aspiration and civic presence, the twilight capture proves particularly revelatory in demonstrating how the building performs as both daytime sculptural object and nocturnal luminous beacon with interior illumination transforming the towers into vertical lanterns that mark the urban landscape, one might observe how the curvilinear towers seem to engage in dialogue with one another their flowing forms creating implied spatial tensions and visual rhythms that animate what might otherwise read as static commercial volumes, viewers are invited to consider how contemporary architectural practice continues to expand the formal vocabulary available to designers working at urban scale and how such innovations contribute to the evolving character of metropolitan environments
