About Ls Twin Stars Reception Center
Ls Twin Stars is a reception center completed in Taiwan in June 2024. The design is based on the theme of home protection. Layered shield shapes form the facade and give the building the appearance of a fortress. The exterior uses wood wool cement boards with flexible polyurethane coatings, which allow expansion and contraction in a seismic environment. Metal lacquer gives the outer walls a semi-reflective finish. Inside, curved concentric walls radiate from a central model display area. Wood veneer and stone veneer create a warm and stable atmosphere.
Architectural practices addressing contemporary commercial and institutional building types increasingly demonstrate sophisticated engagement with the expressive potential of facade systems as mediating elements between interior program and urban context, and Ls Twin Stars Reception Center by UP Town New Interior Design exemplifies this trajectory through its disciplined yet inventive approach to vertical modulation and material articulation, the building participating in ongoing architectural conversations regarding seriality, pattern, ornament, and tectonic expression that extend from early modernist investigations through parametric and computational design developments of recent decades, the facade composition employing a regular grid of faceted white vertical fins that simultaneously fulfill multiple architectural functions including solar shading, privacy screening, structural expression, and aesthetic characterization, this multivalent performance representing efficient integration of technical requirements and formal ambition, the repetitive system recalling both the columniation of classical architecture and the seriality explored by minimalist artists and architects, yet the dimensional complexity of each individual element and the carefully calibrated intervals between solid and void distinguish the work from purely reductive minimalism, suggesting instead an architecture that embraces both systematic logic and sensory richness, the material palette restrained to emphasize form and light over chromatic variation, the predominant white or warm off-white surfaces maximizing light reflection while maintaining visual cohesion, accents of metallic champagne gold in the signage providing moments of luxury and visual punctuation within the otherwise unified field, the ground level entry sequence demonstrating particular compositional skill through the dramatic sculptural supports that frame the recessed threshold, these elements transforming functional structure into expressive gesture, their splaying forms creating a sense of welcome and spatial expansion, the ceiling of this entry zone enriched with geometric relief pattern that rewards close observation and transforms an often-overlooked surface into an ornamental field, this attention to detail suggesting a design philosophy that values the full sensory experience of architectural space rather than merely the efficiency of programmatic accommodation, the building's proportions and massing achieving balance between horizontal emphasis established by continuous datum lines and vertical aspiration expressed through the fin system, this tension between horizontal and vertical impulses creating dynamic equilibrium and visual interest, the facade's near-symmetry balanced by strategic asymmetrical placements preventing monotony while maintaining overall order, the architectural expression drawing upon both modernist traditions of rational construction and contemporary investigations of surface, pattern, and material performance, the building establishing confident urban presence through its clean lines, generous entry sequence, and disciplined formal vocabulary, yet maintaining approachability and human scale through proportional sensitivity and the welcoming gesture of the recessed entry, the design suggesting how contemporary commercial architecture can achieve distinctiveness and quality within economic constraints through thoughtful manipulation of standard building systems and strategic investment in key experiential moments, how does this building's balance between systematic repetition and selective enrichment create both architectural coherence and memorable spatial character, and what does its synthesis of functional requirements and aesthetic ambition suggest about contemporary approaches to civic and commercial building in urban contexts?
Press Kit
- Unique Properties
- The first key feature is the shield-shaped facade, symbolizing 'home protection' as a fortress offering security. Materials like wood wool cement boards and flexible PU coatings prevent cracks from earthquakes and enhance texture. The ground floor features an open parking area, while the ceiling incorporates geometric shapes, adding depth. The second feature is the concentric wall inside, representing 'home as the center.' Radiating outward, the interior walls form layered partitions, highlighting stability, warmth, and the inclusive nature of the home.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The first floor features a parking area, a model display area, and an accessible booth for visitors who may have difficulty going upstairs. This booth allows for comfortable discussions and displays viewing on the first floor. The model display area is designed with curved concentric walls, highlighting the project location, introducing the design team, and outlining future development plans. On the second floor, there's a discussion area, a show-home area, and a tea bar for relaxation and photos. The discussion area benefits from large east-facing windows, maximizing natural light for a bright and comfortable environment.

- Production Technology
- The exterior features wood wool cement boards paired with flexible PU coatings, allowing for structural expansion and contraction. The outer walls are coated with metal lacquer, creating a semi-reflective finish that shimmers subtly in sunlight, adding a modern, striking touch. Inside, wood veneer is used extensively, providing a warm and tactile feel that enhances the home's comfort. Stone veneer complements the design, reinforcing stability and security, balancing the overall atmosphere, and creating a harmonious blend of softness and strength.
- Design Challenge
- To ensure stability, especially for the second-floor reception area above the parking lot, architects implemented a steel structure system. Secondary beams were added beneath the main beams to distribute structural pressure, effectively mitigating vibrations and earthquake impacts. Additionally, in response to stricter regulations, this project became the first reception center in New Taipei City to fully comply with official fire safety standards. The fire protection systems were fully integrated, meeting the same requirements as permanent buildings, ensuring safety and compliance.
- Project Duration
- The project finished in June 2024 in Taiwan.
- Operation Flow
- The reception center's design is highly recognizable, featuring a striking shield-shaped facade and bold volume that make it a local landmark. It has become a reference case for industry professionals. Visitors immediately feel a warm, relaxed atmosphere upon entering, with wood textures, greenery, and soft natural light creating a sense of openness and ease. Unlike traditionally luxurious and rigid designs, this center offers an approachable and welcoming environment, showcasing the success of a soft and thoughtful design approach.
- Research
- The project is a reception center designed around the core concept of 'home protection.' The shield-shaped exterior and meticulous interior planning combine strength and warmth. Layered shield shapes symbolize the solid defense of a home, while semi-reflective materials and linear lighting create a striking visual effect. The facade materials, such as wood wool cement boards and flexible PU coatings, enhance stability in a seismic environment. Inside, the design radiates outward from the central model area, symbolizing home as the center and its connection to the surrounding environment.
- Inspiration
- The reception center is the first gateway for potential buyers, making the initial impression crucial. The project centers around the theme of 'home protection.' Geometric shield shapes are layered on the exterior, symbolizing the solid defense of a family. From a distance, the sleek shield forms resemble a fortress. The combination of semi-reflective materials and linear lighting on the facade not only creates a visually striking effect but also conveys a silent sense of protection, instilling a sense of trust in visitors about their future homes.
