About Lineage de La Foliole Packaging

Lineage de La Foliole is a packaging design for Pu'er tea essence. Pu'er tea normally requires up to nine manual steps, while the tea essence allows the taste to be enjoyed through a faster extraction method. The packaging carries a tea leaf shaped icon with a granular texture, which refers to the extraction of the essence from large Pu'er leaves. Chinese characters in the Song Ti font are arranged in different forms to give a classical tone. Lines and selected elements are gold stamped, and the illustrations are framed in gold.

TIGER PAN's Lineage de La Foliole Packaging presents a distinguished achievement in contemporary luxury packaging design that bridges Eastern philosophical traditions with Western design sensibilities through its masterful deployment of botanical imagery rendered in precious metallic tones against grounds of profound celestial blue. The work demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how packaging functions as both protective vessel and communicative medium, with the intricate leaf skeleton patterns serving as visual metaphors for the refinement process that transforms raw botanical material into consumable essence. The gold-on-indigo palette evokes historical associations with imperial elegance and scholarly refinement, while the delicate tracery of veins and capillaries speaks to traditions of nature observation and appreciation found across multiple cultural heritage contexts. Technical execution reveals exceptional control in the foil stamping process, with each minute line maintaining clarity and continuity across the curved box surfaces. The typographic treatment demonstrates careful consideration of hierarchy and readability, with character spacing and sizing calibrated to guide the eye through product information while maintaining aesthetic cohesion. The constellation-like dot patterns scattered across certain faces introduce an element of wonder and expansiveness, suggesting that the contents connect earthly cultivation with cosmic rhythms. The inclusion of a human hand within the presentation photography adds scale and tactile invitation, transforming what might remain purely abstract into an accessible luxury experience. One might observe how the unified color environment eliminates visual noise, allowing the golden botanical networks to emerge with jewel-like presence. The stacked arrangement creates an almost architectural quality, suggesting depth of heritage and accumulated refinement. Viewers are invited to consider how the external vessel prepares consciousness for the sensory experience contained within, and how design transforms commercial necessity into contemplative object.

Production Technology
We use gold stamping to print the lines and selected elements. Different textures of stamping will enrich the overall presentation of the packages and refine with more detailed feeling. All illustrations are surrounded with golden frames, which is to enhance a sense of order and quality. The layout on the belt is stamped in copper gold, matching with the red gold logo and the pictures of products.
Design Challenge
Referencing from the process of extracting the treasure from big Pu'er tea leaves, we designed a tea leaf-shaped icon with granular texture, along with aesthetics, also explaining the product attributes.
Project Duration
The project was done within 3 months. The design is finished in Shenzhen, produced in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province.
Operation Flow
Praising the fine illustrations, the compact layout, the distinctive belts and the overall packaging effect. The products show up on shelves or counters in good order and eye-catching colors. Consumers are offered with more choices of holiday gifts, instead of a limited range of flowers or wines. Snacks gifts boxes can be both conveying gratitude and reflecting personal aesthetic orientation.
Research
We used Chinese characters, the most concise and powerful Chinese cultural symbol, as the design element. The elegant and timeless Song Ti font is arranged in different forms to express a poetic beauty, conveying the product's simple, light, and luxurious tone; overall presenting a classical temperament of antique tomes.
Inspiration
Our inspiration comes from the Chinese idiom "A Leaf as the Herald of Autumn (A Straw in the Wind)". Ancient Chinese used a leaf to perceive the world, like "seeing a World in a Grain of Sand, and a Heaven in a Wild Flower" (Blake, W. (1968), 'Auguries of Innocence'). Referencing from the process of extracting the treasure from big Pu'er tea leaves, we designed a tea leaf-shaped icon with granular texture, along with aesthetics, also explaining the product attributes.
