About Kerloso Wine Packaging

Kerloso Wine is a packaging design for a red wine from Chile. The label shows the scene sailors saw when they first landed on Easter Island, including stone statues, a volcano, flowers, a deer and birds. The bottle is wrapped in natural imitation rice paper, bound with straw rope and decorated with a piece of natural bluestone, the same material as the Moai statues. The top of the paper is burned by real flame, so each mark is unique. Different colors mark different grape types. The wrapped bottle stands about 35 centimeters high.

Langcer Lee's Kerloso Wine Packaging represents a distinguished achievement in contemporary beverage packaging that transcends conventional commercial presentation to engage profound questions of cultural memory, identity, and the contemplative experience of discovery. The design system demonstrates exceptional sophistication in its orchestration of a reveal sequence, presenting the product across three states that transform the act of unwrapping into ceremonial experience. The illustrative program featuring monumental carved stone heads draws upon humanity's enduring fascination with ancient sculptural traditions, rendered here with remarkable technical accomplishment in subtle tonal gradations suggesting weathered surfaces and the passage of time. The bold typographic intervention posing an existential question elevates the packaging from mere container to philosophical prompt, inviting consumers to contemplate their own relationship to heritage, authenticity, and self-knowledge. Material choices demonstrate refined sensibility, with the horizontally striated paper wrapper suggesting handcraft traditions while providing sufficient structural integrity for the dramatic sculptural transformations visible in the presentation. The restricted chromatic palette of warm neutrals punctuated by copper-gold metallic accents achieves remarkable visual distinction while maintaining approachability, suggesting both artisanal authenticity and contemporary sophistication. Compositional intelligence manifests in the calculated progression from fully concealed to fully revealed, creating narrative tension that rewards extended viewing and positions the eventual exposure of the bottle as climactic revelation. The integration of natural twine binding introduces organic warmth and tactile invitation, suggesting careful human attention in an age of mechanical production. This work invites consideration of how contemporary design practice might honor ancestral traditions while speaking in distinctly modern visual language, and how the ritual of unwrapping might be elevated to meaningful cultural experience.

Unique Properties
The red wine label created the scene that sailors saw when they boarded the land for the first time. They pulled away the grass and saw Moai, volcano, blooming red lily of the valley, smart Brown deer and vultures. The seal is decorated with the contents of the ancient documents found on Easter Island, which records the mystery and beauty here. The golden space left can let people express their feelings at the moment.
Dimensions & Packaging
The height of the bottle after wrapping paper is about 35cm

Production Technology
The paper wrapped around the bottle body is pure natural imitation rice paper. Different colors distinguish red wine of different grape types, which is retro and simple. The bottle body is wrapped with paper and bound with straw rope, and decorated with pure natural bluestone with the same Moai raw materials
Design Challenge
The innovation lies in the burning mark of the wrapped paper and the pure natural bluestone consistent with Moai raw materials bound to the outside with straw rope. The burn marks of each bottle are unique and produced by real combustion. Pure natural bluestone is not easy to find in developing cities.
Project Duration
The project started in Tianjin in July 2021, completed in Tianjin in August 2021, and exhibited in Tianjin in September 2021.
Operation Flow
The burn marks made by fire on the top of the wrapping paper represent the lost memory, as if hiding the mysterious stone statue and the erased civilization. After wrapping the bottle with paper, it is bound with straw rope, and decorated with pure natural bluestone with the same Moai raw materials, so as to further seal these long-standing memories and return everything to his original appearance.
Research
The most mysterious thing in Easter Island is the Moai stone statue on the island. More than 1000 huge bust stone statues were found on the island, of which 600 were neatly arranged on the stone island by the sea. The stone statues vary in size, 6-23 meters high and weigh about 30-90 tons. They have strange images and serious faces. They seem thoughtful when facing the sea.
Inspiration
Keloso, a red wine brand from Chile, is derived from Spanish "the mystery of the magical colossus". Many amazing Moai stone statues stand on the distant Easter Island. These stone statues look strange and spread all over the island, and how they were built is still an unsolved mystery.
