- Production Technology
- IoT technology, WIFI Connection, Intelligent Sensors are the most essential techniques that are used in the iPlant.
- Design Challenge
- Finding sensors for plant growth factors and embedding intelligent components in the pot is the most challenging part of iplant.
- Project Duration
- It started in Tehran, Iran in March 2019 and finished in May 2019.
- Operation Flow
- Sensors check soil and plant status and send this information an electronic board. Embedded software will check this information to a standard level and will send a notification to a mobile application to make the user aware of plant status. All this mechanism will help the user to care plant completely.
- Research
- Many peoples have plants at home or office, but they could not care for them because caring plants need necessary agricultural information and skills. Also, irrigation is a significant concern for ordinary peoples. Plant fertilizer, temperature, environment light, and many other factors should be considered for caring plants.
- Inspiration
- The origin of this idea is given from the Ozon layer. Growing plants' difficulties in home and office by untrained or without agricultural knowledge peoples was our concern to design an intelligent flower pot. Taking care of plants will help humans to have a more delicate environment, better and fresher weather, more oxygen, healthier psychological atmosphere, but not everyone could do it.

Design Interview about iPlant Flower Pot
The origin of this idea is given from the Ozon layer. Growing plants' difficulties in home and office by untrained or without agricultural knowledge peoples was our concern to design an intelligent flower pot. Taking care of plants will help humans to have a more delicate environment, better and fresher weather, more oxygen, healthier psychological atmosphere, but not everyone could do it. iPlant is a combination of artificial intelligence and an agricultural information base device that helps humans to care for plants in the best possible status.
iPlant is going to help people care plants without any specialized knowledge, helping to keep plants in top condition and maximize their longevity.
We are going to produce it. We design to make my idea real.
8 months.
This concept is an innovative idea. We have always been interested in combining new technologies with aesthetic concepts and creating usable products that are tailored to the needs of the users.
We are going to sell or lease the production rights. We prefer to design and create newer ideas.

There is a smart status light ring around the pot that indicate flower status and work as a visual notifier.
Many flower pots are designed in the world, but the iPlant is the result of my idea.
iPlant is a product for all people.
Embedded sensors in this pot could be configured to check the plant and soil status according to different kinds of plants. Besides, a new irrigation system is invented, this plant pot that irrigates plant from the root that is a new approach.
iPlant is given from two worlds: intelligent and Plant in which bring to mind the concept of the smart plant.
We have used many tools to design this product: manual sketching and 3D design and rendering tools.
Combining aesthetics in product appearance with technology and considering the user's needs. These are the essential features of this design.
We designed this product as a team. Many types of research are done to develop this product.
I have to say; technology is the heart of the iPlant. We designed it on the base of artificial intelligence.
This product is designed based on digital technologies.
Implementing a sophisticated concept and blending it with some technology in a feasible manner was the most challenging stage.
As A`design is a very prestigious competition, we decide to submit our design.
As more harder, as more try; as more try, as more joy.
Thanks for this great opportunity.
Grand Interview about iPlant Flower Pot
The intelligent irrigation system in iPlant was developed to simplify plant care for urban users who lack agricultural expertise. The journey began with understanding common challenges in plant care, such as inconsistent watering. By integrating IoT technology and smart sensors, we created an automatic irrigation system that provides water directly to the roots based on real-time soil data, ensuring optimal hydration while conserving water.
The ozone layer served as an inspiration to emphasize protection and sustainability in iPlant's design. The smooth, circular form reflects the continuity of nature, while the intelligent features promote healthier indoor environments by ensuring plants thrive. This design not only enhances air quality but also creates a more serene and oxygen-rich atmosphere, making it ideal for homes and offices.
The research phase involved extensive studies on soil composition, moisture levels, and nutrient requirements for various plant species. We collaborated with agricultural experts to identify the most effective sensors for measuring these factors. The sensors were then calibrated to provide precise data, allowing the iPlant system to adjust watering and care recommendations based on each plant’s unique needs.
The mobile app was designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind. We focused on creating a user-friendly interface that provides clear notifications and care instructions. By integrating visual indicators and simple alerts, users can easily monitor their plants’ health without needing specialized knowledge. This approach ensures that anyone can successfully care for their plants with minimal effort.
One of the main challenges was creating a water reservoir that could sustain plants for an entire month without overwatering. We had to optimize the irrigation system to release water gradually, based on soil moisture levels. By incorporating smart sensors and a root-level irrigation system, we ensured that water is used efficiently, reducing waste and maintaining plant health.
Balancing aesthetics with functionality was key to iPlant’s design. We embedded the sensors and irrigation components seamlessly within the pot, ensuring they do not detract from its sleek appearance. The design prioritizes both form and function, allowing the pot to blend into modern interiors while delivering advanced plant care solutions.
My experience in Persian carpet design, which emphasizes detail and harmony, influenced iPlant’s aesthetic. We aimed to create a design that is both functional and visually pleasing, much like the intricate patterns in carpets. This cultural heritage guided our focus on creating a product that is not only practical but also adds beauty to any space.
Root-level irrigation was inspired by the need to optimize water usage, especially in urban areas where water conservation is critical. By delivering water directly to the roots, iPlant ensures that plants receive the moisture they need without waste. This method not only conserves water but also promotes healthier root growth, making it a sustainable solution for home gardening.
As environmental concerns grow, we envision iPlant evolving to incorporate even more advanced sensors and AI-driven care recommendations. Future iterations may include integration with home automation systems, allowing users to monitor and control plant care remotely. By continually adapting to new technologies, iPlant aims to support sustainable living and healthier indoor environments.
Winning the A' Design Award validated our commitment to creating sustainable, user-friendly products. It reinforced the idea that integrating technology with thoughtful design can solve everyday challenges. This recognition motivates us to continue innovating and developing solutions that enhance both user experience and environmental sustainability.
