About Immersive Stage Projection Mapping Graphics
Immersive Stage is a series of motion graphics and projection mapping designs created for stage performances at a university orientation event. The event was held at Prince Mahidol Hall, Mahidol University, Thailand, on July 29, 2025, with about 6,500 participants across three rounds. The theme, Be Your Own Fireworks, is expressed through seven firework characters representing the core values of the university. The graphics appear on five LED screens and through five projectors placed on the balconies and ceiling of the hall.
Dynaya Bhutipunthu's Immersive Stage Projection Mapping Graphics represents a significant achievement within the evolving discipline of digital scenography and immersive theatrical visualization, positioning itself at the intersection of spatial design, digital artistry, and experiential communication where technology serves not merely functional but transformative aesthetic purposes, the work demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how projection mapping technologies can transcend simple surface decoration to create enveloping atmospheric environments that fundamentally alter the perceptual experience of architectural and theatrical space, drawing upon visual vocabularies that synthesize sacred geometric traditions spanning cultures from Islamic tessellations to Tibetan mandalas to rose windows of Gothic cathedrals while translating these timeless formal languages into contemporary digital luminosity, the compositional achievement lies in the careful calibration of chromatic relationships where complementary pairings of blue-orange and violet-yellow generate maximum optical vibrancy while analogous passages of warm hues create harmonic transitions that guide the eye fluidly across the expansive visual field, the technical facility evidenced in the crisp geometric precision and saturated color rendering suggests mastery of digital projection technologies including pixel-perfect mapping to irregular surfaces, color calibration for theatrical lighting conditions, and content creation that accounts for viewing distance and audience perspective, thematically the work appears to explore territories of celebration, cosmic wonder, and collective sensory experience, creating visual analogues for ephemeral phenomena like fireworks displays, celestial events, and moments of explosive joy that exist briefly in time before dissolving back into darkness, the radial geometries function simultaneously as abstract formal exercises in symmetry and rhythm while carrying associative resonances with natural forms from flowers to sea creatures to astronomical phenomena, suggesting the deep human impulse to find pattern and meaning in both natural and constructed visual environments, one might observe how the work participates in broader contemporary conversations around immersive media, the theatricalization of everyday experience, and the pursuit of transcendent moments through technological means, while the incorporation of the human figure walking across this cosmic stage perhaps invites reflection on individual experience within collective spectacle, the relationship between human scale and monumental environment, and the navigation of contemporary life through increasingly mediated and spectacular visual landscapes, the piece demonstrates particular achievement in its integration of multiple projection zones into a unified yet varied composition that rewards both panoramic viewing and focused attention on individual geometric clusters, creating visual complexity that unfolds progressively as the viewer's eye explores the rich surface, for audiences this work offers entry into contemplation of how digital technologies expand the vocabulary of theatrical expression, how ancient symbolic forms find renewed vitality in contemporary media, and how visual design can create shared spaces of wonder and sensory delight.
Press Kit
- Unique Properties
- Instructors and students from Mahidol University International College, Thailand, developed the theme, visual communications and presentations including a series of motion graphic and projection mapping designs for stage performances of the Mahidol University Orientation event in 2025. The event was held at the Prince Mahidol Hall, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus, Thailand, on July 29, 2025 with approximately 6,500 participants attending this one day event.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The stage design in the Prince Mahidol Hall for motion graphics and projection mapping covers five LED screens positioned on stage with the dimension of 15 square meter and 72 square meter. For projection mapping displays, there are 5 projectors installed on the left and the right sides of the balconies and on the ceiling of the hall.

- Production Technology
- The series of motion graphics were made for projection mapping on stage and four parts of the performances. Part 1 showcases the brief 136 years history of the university. Part 2 projects opening sequences of the event. Part 3 covers the motion graphics screening for Mahidol University Choir performances. And Part 4 presents projection mapping graphics for live concert performances.
- Design Challenge
- Knowledge transfer from multidisciplines is the main challenge of this design project integrating actual projects into studio class environment as project-based learning, Experiential Learning Theory, ELT. Working for the actual project with the big scale scope of work is not only help students to acquire professional skills in creative, design, and production fields, but also in teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills with problem solving and lifelong learning development.
- Project Duration
- The event is a one day event held at the Prince Mahidol Hall, Mahidol University, Thailand on July 29, 2025. The event was set into 3 rounds with a length of approximately 2 hours per round starting from 9:00 to 16:00 with 2,000 to 2,500 participants attending each round.
- Operation Flow
- Motion Graphics and Projection Mapping for on stage performances of the event were designed by group of instructors and students from Mahidol University International College and sponsored by Mahidol University, Thailand.
- Research
- This project was integrated in the curriculum of the program. The course called Communication Design Practicum and New Media with the main objectives is for students to apply skills they have learned in these studio courses to work on the actual projects through collaborations. Students and faculty were working together with outside parties through the design process from start to finish, executing the final product to be displayed in the hall for performances. Research methodology included literature review of the insights of target audiences and the content for motion graphics storytelling. Followed by the review of best practice design works, the in-depth interviews of all parties involved in the project for design execution directions. The design process also covers the series of revisions of the works from rehearsals of the performances. Students experienced the professional working process as individuals and as a team replying to the strategy of the university to have students experience the SDG 17, Partnership for the Goal, of working together to create impact for themselves and others in the society (https://www.sdgmove.com/intro-to-sdgs/).
- Inspiration
- The theme of this year Mahidol University Orientation event is Be Your Own Fireworks implying that each student can be lit up as firework when coming to study at the university. Applying the theme into opening sequences, seven types and characters of fireworks were created representing core values of the university, the seven characters cover all letters of the name of the university, Mahidol, as follows, Mastery, Altruism, Harmony, Integrity, Determination, Originality, and Leadership.
