About Hsr048/Hsr050/Hsr060 Industrial Robot

HSR048, HSR050 and HSR060 are horizontal multi-joint industrial robots, also known as Scara robots. Each robot holds a hand at the arm tip, so the machine can be adapted to many tasks and supports automation and labor saving in production plants. The arms extend from a stable base and become slimmer toward the tip, which lowers weight and inertia and allows stable high-speed motion. The organic form recalls the human body and makes fast movement less intimidating for workers on the production line. The compact body helps reduce the size of the equipment.

The HSR048 / HSR050 / HSR060 Industrial Robot by DENSO DESIGN exemplifies the contemporary movement in industrial design that seeks to harmonize mechanical function with aesthetic refinement, representing a significant achievement in the automation sector where engineering excellence meets thoughtful visual design, this SCARA-type robotic arm demonstrates how precision manufacturing equipment can transcend purely utilitarian considerations to become objects of genuine visual sophistication, the design team has employed a restrained material palette dominated by pristine white polymer housings that suggest cleanliness, precision, and technological advancement while simultaneously softening the mechanical nature of the device, the sculptural quality of the form language deserves particular attention with flowing curves replacing harsh angles wherever functionally permissible, creating an organic sensibility that makes the robot appear almost biological in its articulation, the carrying handle integrated into the upper housing represents thoughtful consideration of human interaction with the machine, its matte black finish providing both visual accent and practical grip surface, technically the design demonstrates sophisticated understanding of component hierarchy with different surface treatments distinguishing structural housings from precision mechanical elements, the polished stainless steel of the lead screw assemblies and bearing mechanisms communicates accuracy and quality while creating textural dialogue with the matte polymer surfaces, compositionally the extended horizontal reach of the arm creates dynamic visual tension balanced by the substantial vertical base, the proportional relationships suggest careful attention to the golden ratio principles that have guided aesthetic judgments across millennia, this work invites consideration of how industrial design can elevate manufacturing environments, transforming functional equipment into objects that communicate corporate values of precision, innovation, and care, viewers might contemplate how such thoughtful design influences workplace atmosphere and operator engagement with automated systems

Production Technology
Since we thought that the influence of inertia could be suppressed by reducing the weight of the tip, we adopted an arm that was powerfully extended from a stable base and became more delicate toward the tip. As a result, stable high-speed operation and design innovation were realized.
In addition, the entire product was constructed with an organic design that resembles the human body so that high-speed operation does not give a sense of intimidation or anxiety to workers working on the production line.
Design Challenge
The aim was to create the fastest SCARA robot. Initially, however, the expectations of the designer were only to renovate the appearance of the predecessor. I felt that the previous model's structure did not embody the fastest spec, so I proposed an ideal form of the SCARA robot including a renovation of the whole structure first.
Project Duration
This project is started from 2014. The robot is already on sale and still produced.
Operation Flow
This product is settled in a factory, and programed their jobs and works for whole day.
Research
We researched most of SCARA robots in the world through internet and world wide robot exhibitions. Then we realized that we have to change every legacy structure to make robot faster.
Inspiration
Conceived from the structure of the human body, "tension" and "contraction" provide its external form. The lifelike soft exterior removes the sense of intimidation during high-speed movement.
