About Hill Wind Hotel and Resort

Hill Wind is a resort hotel located in Anji County, Huzhou. The external form follows modern architectural thinking, with geometric cloud shapes drawn from the origami concept and extended into irregular volumes. A white membrane material is joined to these forms through structural changes. Inside, a narrow entrance passage creates a deep sense of space, and a continuously flowing ceiling is shaped and stitched by craftsmen. Bamboo and wood from the Anji area are used as building materials. The project covers 3500 square meters and echoes the surrounding natural landscape.

Huafang Wang's architectural achievement engages with the enduring dialogue between built form and natural landscape, proposing a resolution wherein structure becomes geological event rather than imposed object upon terrain. The faceted white volumes may be understood within traditions of crystalline architecture extending from Expressionist visions of Bruno Taut's Alpine Architecture through contemporary parametric practices, yet here the angular forms serve not merely formal experimentation but profound contextual response to the mountainous setting. The technical accomplishment lies in the precision of the folded plate geometry, where each triangulated surface catches light differently throughout the day, creating a kinetic visual experience despite the building's static presence. The compositional strategy positions the architecture as both complement and counterpoint to the natural topography, with artificial peaks conversing across space with their geological counterparts. The entrance sequence demonstrates sophisticated spatial choreography, drawing visitors through a compressed stone-lined passage that amplifies the subsequent expansion into the luminous interior beyond. The integration of vegetated roofing extends the landscape continuously over and around the building, blurring conventional distinctions between architecture and terrain. Thematic resonance emerges in the meditation on shelter and exposure, interiority and prospect, with the protective cave-like entrance yielding to crystalline transparency above. This work invites contemplation of how contemporary architecture might honor place through abstraction rather than imitation, achieving integration through formal dialogue rather than camouflage, and one might consider how the interplay of geometric precision and organic setting reflects broader questions about humanity's relationship with natural environments.

Unique Properties
This case is a resort hotel design project, the outline of the external form adopts the thinking mode of modern architecture. The designer extracts the image of geometric clouds from the origami concept and extends the irregular shapes. With the same type of white film as the internationally renowned Burj Al Arab, the two elements are integrated through structural changes, which bring out the best in each other.
Dimensions & Packaging
The project covers a total of 3500 square meters. If the appearance of the building is striking to the visitors at first glance, people will be surprised to find that the building is "flowing" after entering the Hill Wind.

Production Technology
The fluctuate continuously ceiling is formed and stitched by craftsmen. In the selection of materials, the bamboo and wood abundant in Anji provide us with advantaged construction materials.
Design Challenge
The natural raw materials are warm and soft, without any decoration, and they harmoniously dissolve into the infinite greenness. It not only weakens the huge scale of the architectural framework and adds exquisite texture to the rigid concrete, but also echoes the surrounding natural landscape, making the building and nature more closely through this way. In the designer's opinion, a good life or a good design work must be related to nature, which is also the core of the design of this case.
Project Duration
The project started in March 2017 in Huzhou and finished in April 2019 in Huzhou.
Operation Flow
Seen from the entrance, the narrow and long passage mysteriously carries a deep sense of space aesthetics. Combining the shape of the nest with the uneven stone, it creates a rough and steady visual effect. The quiet interior and the noisy exterior form a pulling feeling in space, which attracts the past customers.
Research
Hill Wind is located in the beautiful mountains and lake light of Anji County, Huzhou City. This ancient Longwang Village with over 200 years of ancient paper-making skills is known as the "Three Clean Places" of clean air, clean water and clean soil. It is a secluded quiet dwelling full of artistic flavor and embracing natural scenery.
Inspiration
According to the regional characteristics, the designer combines the local culture and historical context in the process of conception. Under the dominant atmosphere of modernism, the designer uses the language of design to create dialogue with space, and then interprets the visual, tactile and spiritual resonance, reproducing the Anji area humanistic landscape pattern of "The cicada noise highlights the silence of the forest, and birdsong sets off the depth of the mountain".
