About Hacienda Summer House
Hacienda is a summer house built in North Coast, Egypt. The house is surrounded by water on all sides to create an island-like setting. The interiors recall life on a lavish boat, and each room is given a distinct character. Neutral and white tones form the base of the contemporary interiors, accented by bold and bright colors such as red in selected furniture pieces. Wood, copper and marble are the main materials, and copper details highlight the inner design. A terrace, a passageway and a landscape in shades of blue support a calm atmosphere around the pool area.
Hany Saad's Hacienda Summer House represents a distinguished contribution to contemporary residential architecture that thoughtfully engages with regional building traditions while embracing modernist spatial principles and material refinement. The design demonstrates sophisticated understanding of threshold conditions, where the progression from public approach through landscaped forecourt to private interior unfolds as a carefully choreographed sequence of spatial experiences. The architect appears to draw upon the courtyard typologies and shaded outdoor living traditions associated with warm-climate vernacular architecture, reinterpreting these precedents through a contemporary formal vocabulary of clean geometric volumes and horizontal layering. The integration of timber screening elements serves both practical solar control functions and establishes visual rhythm across the facade, creating interplay between opacity and transparency that animates the otherwise restrained white surfaces. Particularly noteworthy is the landscape design strategy that positions mature specimen trees as sculptural protagonists within the composition, establishing dialogue between organic natural forms and precise architectural geometry. The material palette demonstrates restraint and intentionality, with smooth rendered walls, textured stone surfaces, warm timber, and verdant planting working in complementary relationship. The twilight capture reveals the building's capacity to transform through changing light conditions, suggesting that temporal experience forms an essential dimension of the architectural conception. This work invites contemplation of how contemporary design might honor regional traditions of indoor-outdoor living while pursuing formal clarity and material authenticity appropriate to its moment.
