About Gius 5 Motorcycle Helmet
Gius 5 is a motorcycle helmet that combines protection, comfort and ventilation. Five independent air intakes work with a central negative pressure exhaust vent at the top of the crown, shortening the airflow path to expel warm and humid air. Each air channel has a manual valve that blocks wind and dust when closed. The visor uses a mechanical locking mechanism that prevents detachment during strong impact. The rounded jaw edge and recessed flexible lower edges spread impact loads over a wider area. The shell is molded from composite engineering plastic.
Ken Feng's Gius 5 Motorcycle Helmet emerges from a distinguished lineage of protective equipment design where engineering necessity intersects with aesthetic refinement, exemplifying contemporary approaches to safety wear that honor both functional imperatives and visual sophistication. The helmet's formal vocabulary draws upon sculptural traditions that transform utilitarian objects into expressive artifacts, its faceted crown and integrated ventilation channels suggesting the influence of automotive and aerospace design languages where every surface articulation serves aerodynamic or structural purposes. The presentation captures this achievement within an environmental context that emphasizes the relationship between technological protection and natural freedom, positioning the equipped rider against expansive atmospheric space as if at the threshold between terrestrial anchoring and horizon-bound possibility. Technical accomplishment reveals itself through the precise material differentiations distinguishing matte shell surfaces from glossy visor treatments, through the seamless integration of modular components, and through proportional relationships that balance coverage requirements with visual elegance. The chromatic restraint operating through charcoal and obsidian tones allows formal qualities to command attention without decorative distraction, while amber-toned mechanical elements introduce warmth that prevents clinical coldness. One observes how the designer has navigated the perpetual tension between maximum protection and minimum visual weight, achieving a presence that suggests security without oppressive bulk. The composition's environmental setting invites contemplation of themes surrounding human vulnerability, technological mediation, and the pursuit of experiences that balance risk with reward. Viewers might consider how objects designed primarily for protection simultaneously communicate identity, aspiration, and membership within communities of practice united by shared appreciation for crafted equipment that enables cherished activities.

- Unique Properties
- Gius 5 integrates safety, comfort, and performance. The visor uses a mechanical locking mechanism instead of a traditional latch, preventing detachment during extreme impact to reduce secondary injury risk. The helmet incorporates five independent air intake vents working with a central negative pressure exhaust port to attain efficient ventilation and heat dissipation.
- Dimensions & Packaging

- Production Technology
- The Gius 5 uses waterjet cutting technology instead of traditional laser cutting. The outer shell is molded from a composite engineering plastic, replacing conventional fiberglass. The interior liner system is removable and washable. It uses quick drying, antibacterial fabric and is padded with three dimensional support foam selected for its resistance to compression. This extends the service life and reduces the need for replacement.
- Design Challenge
- The vent design ensures efficient airflow entry when open. When closed, external surfaces allow air to pass without obstruction, preventing turbulence or drag. Multiple vents and internal channels distribute evenly across the thermal zones of head. It also minimizes the space occupied by these channels within the EPS energy absorbing liner to preserve maximum impact protection performance.
- Project Duration
- The project design began in Guangzhou in July 2024 and was completed in March 2025. The Gius 5 was exhibited at the 2025 China International Motorcycle Trade Show, Chongqing Motor Show, and at EICMA 2025 in Milan, Italy.
- Operation Flow
- Air intakes on the frontal area of helmet adopt a three port linear structure, providing uniform coverage across the head. Left and right independent air channels are added near the mouth area to optimize breathing comfort. A negative pressure exhaust vent is positioned at the center of the top crown, shortening the airflow path to expel warm, humid air efficiently. Each air channel is equipped with a manually operated valve to block wind and dust ingress when closed.
- Research
- The development of Gius 5 incorporated data from numerous collision cases to inform targeted structural optimizations. The transition area between the jaw and neck features a rounded edge design. This geometry increases the contact surface with the sternum, allowing impact loads to be distributed more evenly. On the lower sides, recessed flexible edges are implemented. These are designed to protect the clavicle area of rider during an impact by preventing force concentration on a single point.
- Inspiration
- Unlike the overt rebellion associated with punk aesthetics, Gius 5 conveys a quieter, more intellectual character. Disparate elements are synthesized into a cohesive whole, avoiding abruptness. The design seeks to visualize the shape of wind moving through the environment. This serves both as an aesthetic expression and as a pursuit of aerodynamic and ventilation performance.
