About Fractal Flower Eye Brain Exercises Interface
Fractal Flower Eye is a brain visualization that blends art, AI, and neuroscience to create a mind control experience. The interface translates brain activity into progressive fractals, offering a glimpse into human consciousness. Captured brain signals are transformed using machine learning and 3D math. Rendered in real-time, modular design allows for four-sided projection, detecting focus levels and enabling dynamic control. Interaction depicts deep learning technology's potential to enhance cognitive engagement, providing audiences with brain-generated art reflecting their inner world.
Yiqi Zhao's Fractal Flower Eye Brain Exercises Interface emerges from the fertile intersection of mathematical visualization, algorithmic aesthetics, and perceptual psychology, positioning itself within the expanding territory of generative and parametric design where computational processes generate forms of remarkable complexity and organic beauty through relatively simple recursive rules, this approach recalls the pioneering fractal explorations that revealed how infinite complexity emerges from iterative mathematical functions, a discovery that revolutionized understanding of natural pattern formation from coastline morphology to botanical branching structures, the work demonstrates sophisticated command of algorithmic color mapping, wherein hue, saturation, and value are assigned to mathematical coordinates producing seamless gradient transitions and vibrant chromatic relationships that would be extraordinarily laborious to achieve through traditional media, the compositional achievement lies in balancing mathematical precision with organic aesthetic appeal, the fractal structures avoid sterile geometric rigidity through flowing curves, petal-like formations, and spiral growth patterns that evoke floral and cellular imagery, creating visual bridges between abstract mathematics and familiar natural forms, the chromatic sophistication manifests in the strategic deployment of split-complementary harmony, the cool blue-violet spectrum dominating spatial extension while warm yellow-green accents provide energizing contrast and prevent chromatic monotony, passages of particular accomplishment include the densely layered central vortex where multiple fractal iterations nest within one another creating vertiginous depth, and the delicate peripheral tendrils where the pattern attenuates into graceful feathered extensions, thematically, the work invites contemplation of pattern as fundamental organizing principle connecting diverse domains from natural growth to mathematical abstraction, the title's reference to brain exercises proves apt, as engaging with the recursive complexity activates visual processing, pattern recognition, and the cognitive pleasure humans derive from perceiving organized complexity, the work participates in longstanding artistic fascination with sacred geometry, mandala traditions across cultures, and the Romantic notion that mathematics reveals deep structural truths about reality, while the algorithmic generation method aligns with contemporary investigations into human-machine creative collaboration and the aesthetic potential of computational systems, one might observe resonances with optical art movements that similarly engaged perceptual psychology, as well as with psychedelic art traditions exploring infinite regress and consciousness expansion through visual means, the fractal's self-similarity across scales creates contemplative invitation to infinite exploration, each magnification revealing new iterations of the pattern, a visual metaphor for inexhaustible complexity within apparent simplicity, viewers might consider how this digitally generated form relates to actual botanical structures that also follow fractal-like growth patterns, reflecting on whether the work reveals something essential about natural beauty or demonstrates that computational processes can generate forms that satisfy aesthetic sensibilities evolved to appreciate organic patterns, the luminous interplay between cool depth and warm highlight creates spatial ambiguity simultaneously suggesting microscopic cellular structures, cosmic nebulae, or purely abstract pattern existing in mathematical rather than physical space, inviting each observer to locate personal meaning within the recursive flowering of algorithmic form.

- Production Technology
- Flower Eye utilizes a brain computer interface to generate 3D fractals based on human brain activity. It employed electroencephalography sensors to capture brain signals, which were then translated into visual patterns using machine learning algorithms with 3d math. The resulting fractals were rendered in real time using a graphics engine and projected onto a large screen, creating an immersive experience. This innovative approach combines art, technology, and neuroscience to create a unique and captivating visual experience.

- Data Collection: EEG sensors
Participants: 20 with sleep loss
It's hard to isolate facial expressions signals with brain signals, eeg, many times when users move their mouse or eyes, the interface detached emg signals, then the data streaming gets delusional. Later changed into three layers of data collection to cancel out the emg influences. - Project Duration
- The project started 2019 in Boston, Harvard University, later modified with diffusion model during 2022. It was exhibited in London, HongKong, Paris in 2023 and 2024.
