About Dekton and Cosentino Pavilion Exhibition

Dekton and Cosentino Pavilion is an exhibition space designed for a design fair in Shanghai. The pavilion covers 150 square meters and uses an open layout to guide visitors through the space. Three functions are provided: product display, customer interaction, and a coffee and water bar. Floors, walls, ceilings and counters are clad with ultra-thin stone panels that are 4 millimetres thick and up to 3.3 by 1.4 metres in size. The panels are dry hung, so the pavilion can be assembled in twelve hours and later dismantled and reused.

Within the contemporary discourse of exhibition architecture and brand environment design, this pavilion installation represents an accomplished synthesis of material expression and spatial narrative that positions commercial display within the broader tradition of architectural phenomenology. The designer demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how volumetric relationships and surface treatments communicate brand values of quality, permanence, and material integrity without recourse to overt messaging. The compositional strategy employs what might be termed architectural scenography, wherein monolithic geometric forms create a stage-like presence that transforms the industrial exhibition hall into a contemplative environment for material appreciation. Technical achievement is evident in the precision of geometric intersections, the consistency of surface finishes, and the seamless integration of architectural lighting elements that appear to emerge from the structure itself rather than being applied as afterthought. The warm linear illumination element cutting diagonally through the primary volume serves multiple functions simultaneously as wayfinding gesture, brand signature, and compositional counterpoint to the predominantly orthogonal vocabulary. Thematic content centers on the tension between natural material origins evoked through stone-like textures and veining patterns and the refined geometric precision of contemporary fabrication, suggesting a mediation between organic provenance and technological mastery. The palette restraint paradoxically allows greater attention to subtle material variations, inviting close examination of surface qualities that reward sustained engagement. One might observe references to minimalist architectural traditions while the spatial organization suggests influences from Japanese concepts of ma or meaningful void. The viewer is invited to consider how architecture shapes perception of materials and how materials in turn define spatial experience.

Unique Properties
1.Purpose:
"Design Shanghai" is Asia's most prestigious design event, gathering over 600 domestic and international design brands from more than 40 countries and attracting nearly 200,000 visitors. This case focuses on the exhibition pavilion design for the Spanish brands DEKTON & COSENTINO at "Design Shanghai," covering an area of 150 square meters.
2.Functionality:
The project, a smaller exhibition hall, utilizes an open layout to draw in visitors while offering three main functions: 1. Product display, 2. Customer interaction, 3. Coffee and water bar services.
Dimensions & Packaging
Dekton Slim's maximum original dimensions are 3.3x1.4 meters, with a thickness of only 4mm. This presents a visually impactful large panel while significantly reducing the structural load.

Production Technology
1.Dekton Slim slabs are ultra-thin, 4mm thick, and high-performance, ideal for indoor and outdoor walls, floors, and furniture, offering durability and resistance to wear and weather.

2.Prefabricated construction, with factory-made high-precision models, enables quick, 12-hour installation, cutting labor costs and pollution.

3.A lightweight support system, designed for DEKTON Slim's slim profile, uses light metals or composites for stable, less burdensome structures.
Design Challenge
1.Challenge: Dekton Slim slabs are processed and installed using prefabricated construction, enabling on-site assembly within 12 hours.

2.Research: Focuses on the slab's full size, ultra-thinness, and modular design for optimal material use.

3.Technology: Utilizes dry hanging construction for easy dismantling and reuse of Dekton Slim, minimizing environmental impact.
Project Duration
This project started in Shanghai, China, on May 21, 2023, and concluded in Shanghai on June 11, 2023.
Operation Flow
Imagine a material as thin as paper yet as sturdy as stone:
Dekton Slim easily covers walls to floors, ideal for bar counters, ceilings, furniture, and more with its versatility.

Environmental Pioneer: A special hook system makes the material easy to install and dismantle, supporting reuse and showcasing an eco-friendly philosophy.
Innovative Experience: The flexibility of the material offers a completely new spatial interaction experience for people.
Research
To highlight Dekton Slim slabs' benefits, their key features were explored: full size, lightweight, durability, and 3D seamless design. Used in a 3.3x1.4 meter format for floors, ceilings, walls, and countertops, they create a cohesive look, showcasing expansive surfaces and integrated design. The open layout optimizes visitor flow and product visibility.
Inspiration
The four major features of Dekton Slim slabs are:
1.Large Size:
The exhibit hall utilizes Dekton Slim's maximum original dimensions of 3.3x1.4 meters for modular design.
2.Lightweight:
With a thickness of only 4mm, it significantly reduces structural load.
Integration: Leveraging its lightweight and durable properties for a unified floor-to-ceiling wall design, it presents the visual aesthetics of a bar counter extending from the floor.
3.Recycling (Dry Hanging Construction):
The construction method is dry hanging, allowing for the material to be easily dismantled and recycled, thus reducing resource waste.
