About CureSight Lazy Eye Treatment Device
The design process of the Curesight focused on creating a product and a treatment solution that will make a positive social impact and help patients, most of whom are children, to avoid the discomfort and embarrassment involved in the traditional treatment by the eye patch. The design also emphasizes that the product look and feel plays an important aspect in motivating and empowering the kids. The inspiration for the styling design came from the tech gadgets that kids love to use and play with it. The shape design provides a slick and modern look for a medical device product.

- Unique Properties
- The curesight is a powerful solution with great potential to totally change the treatment of lazy eye condition, with the important advantage of treating the lazy eye from the comfort of home and by watching any tv or streaming video content.
This healthcare solution for lazy eye condition integrates high-end technologies for eye-tracking and ai software tools for smart analyzing of the lazy eye condition and providing personal custom treatment. The gold standard care for lazy eye is placing a patch over the strong eye, an old-fashioned solution that suffers from very low compliance. - Dimensions & Packaging

- Production Technology
- The design activity started with a brainstorming meeting to learn more about the problem from the clinical and user needs aspects, and to outline the main big limitations of today's treatment methods.
We also discussed the ergonomics and usability needs to be able to provide the best treatment.
during the design process, we tested several design concepts both aesthetically and with physical mockups,
Production technologies include aluminum CNC machining and anodize plating, for the front bezel and plastic injection for the back cover and small covers. - Design Challenge
- The creative challenge was to dress the unique technology components with style and to provide a good user experience to the users, the specific usability needs to enable good treatment for various populations and make it an appealing and empowering treatment device, and lead to important social impact
- Project Duration
- The project started in 2019 in Tel Aviv, and finished in late 2021, the project was exhibited at the CES in January 2020 in Las Vegas
- Operation Flow
- The patient, most likely kids will have the fun be treated by the Curesight while watching any video content they love to watch without any degradation in quality and from the comfort of home.
- Research
- Following an intense effort over the last 18 months, the company officially announced that the company successfully met the primary endpoint of the CureSight randomized, controlled pivotal trial of amblyopia treatment against the gold standard patching.
This is the first-ever pivotal study in which a digital device was shown to be non-inferior to eye patching for amblyopia treatment in children.
The study also exhibited 93% adherence to the curesight treatment, as well as a 93% likelihood of the parents choosing curesight over patching. - Inspiration
- The inspiration for the curesight product started from a personal experience when one of my kids needed to treat the lazy eye condition with the eye patch solution, I learned from this experience about the discomfort of wearing the eye patch for a few hours every day and especially how embarrassing it is from the social point of view.

Design Interview about CureSight Lazy Eye Treatment Device
The inspiration for the curesight product started from a personal experience when one of my kids needed to treat the lazy eye condition with the eye patch solution, I learned from this experience about the discomfort of wearing the eye patch for a few hours every day and especially how embarrassing it is from the social point of view. The inspiration for the styling design came from the tech gadgets that kids love to use and play with, to provide a slick and modern design to a medical device product type, the front aluminum bezel, and the back swallowtail gives the product a clean gadget look.
My focus was to achieve a design that would make children want to approach and interact with the device even without knowing its function.
The client for this design is a medical device startup, they are working hard to finalize all of the regulatory approvals and to start marketing this solution worldwide
The design process from concept to detailed design took about two months, where we started with some concept designs to evaluate the usability, aesthetics, and technology and followed with the second phase of the final concept design and followed with the detailed design and final dimensions, materials, finishes, and more.
I had complete freedom of action to explore and search for unique inspirations and design for the product in the context of the target audience and user experience
This design was ordered by a startup company in the field of healthcare solutions
I decided to accept this design project because of the fact that this is a product that solves a big problem, especially for youngsters, and also will have a meaningful social impact
I'm the only designer who worked on this design
The customer for this design is the company NovaSight, a medical solutions company focusing in solving eyesight problems with eye-tracking and ai technologies
I designed a medical device product type using design elements from the hi tech gadgets and gaming design styling
The client gave the name for this design
Besides hand sketches usually, I'm using the Solidworks cad software for design and rendering and later for accurate detailed design and for, 3d printing, and some other graphic tools
The most unique aspect of this design is the front side outline that combines a rectangular shape with trapezoid shape at the bottom, this design element repeated at the back cover and in the supporting leg
Yes, I worked with the NovaSight engineering team, including electrical and biomechanical engineers
This product is a technological solution intended to replace the current analog solution of the eye patch and as such technology is playing a major role in this design, CAD software, 3D printing, Mechanical and optical simulations, and more
NovaSight company conducted clinical research to evaluate the technological capabilities and to collect data regarding the usability needs and preferences, I used the collected data to define the user experience and ergonomy spec first, and from here, the aesthetic design emerged
We started the design phase with a kit of technological components to implement into the product encasing design; in front of that, we had a spec of usability and ergonomic needs
the product composition and size need to meet the usability and ergonomic needs, so we have a conflict
the product composition and size need to meet the usability and ergonomic needs, so we have a conflict
We received fantastic feedback regarding the product's capabilities and design. It has the fundamental characteristics to be considered a disrupting innovation, like solving a significant problem, cutting edge technology usage, creating positive social impact, and improving the quality of life. And with this in mind, I was sure we had a great chance to win some international design competitions.
Every project is a new challenge, a chance to improve and polish my design capabilities and meet new collaboration partners.
