About Coupe Kitchen Stool
This stool is designed to help one to maintain neutral sitting-standing posture. By observing people’s daily behavior, the design team found the need for people to sit on stools for a shorter period of time such as sitting in the kitchen for a quick break, which inspired the team to create this stool specifically to accommodate such behavior. This stool is designed with minimal parts and structures, making the stool affordable and cost-efficient for both buyers and sellers by taking into account the productivity of manufactures.
Nagano Interior Industry's Coupe Kitchen Stool embodies the enduring dialogue between Eastern woodworking traditions and Western modernist design principles that has characterized the most distinguished furniture production of the past century, presenting a seating solution that appears at once timeless and freshly conceived, the tripod base configuration references vernacular seating forms found across cultures while the refined execution speaks to contemporary manufacturing precision and material sensitivity, the designer has seemingly explored how minimal structural elements can achieve maximum stability and visual grace, with three legs providing inherent steadiness while reducing material usage and visual weight compared to four-legged alternatives, the range of wood finishes from deep walnut through intermediate tones to pale ash suggests an understanding that contemporary interiors demand flexibility and personalization, allowing the stool to harmonize with diverse material palettes from warm traditional settings to cool contemporary spaces, the upholstery options demonstrate equal thoughtfulness, spanning neutral territories that complement rather than compete with surrounding elements while the terracotta variant offers a moment of chromatic warmth for spaces desiring gentle accent, technically the joinery where leg meets seat frame exhibits the precision expected of accomplished woodworking traditions, the angle of splay calculated to provide stability without excessive footprint, the taper of each leg creating visual lightness while maintaining structural integrity, thematically the work invites contemplation of how objects of daily use can elevate quotidian experience through careful attention to proportion, material, and craft, one might consider how the simple act of seating becomes enriched when the supporting object itself rewards close observation and tactile engagement.

- Wooden high stool to be used primarily for home use. This stool is useful in the middle of a sit and stand. You can use the multi-purpose in a variety of situations. It does not take the place if you put against a wall in a compact, light and even feel free to move to where easy to hold. Height of three types according to the height, fabrics, and leathers, wood can also be selected from five. High stool that can be custom to your favorite specifications.

- Design Challenge
- This stool is made with minimal parts and minimal constructs. It was difficult to device those constructs and parts.
- Project Duration
- The project started in November 2015 in Fukuoka Japan and finished in April 2015, and was sales released in April 2015 in japan.
- Operation Flow
- Use this stool in the middle position of a sit and stand. And it can be used for multi-purpose in various situations. For example, when taking a small break during cooking, Extra chairs for parties, etc. It does not take the place if you put against a wall in a compact, light and even feel free to move to where easy to hold.
- Research
- We started the research to develop tools and solve the dissatisfaction in everyday life situations and find the needs of people wanting to take a break in everyday life situations. Based on the findings we actively utilized the advanced tensioning technology of wood processing and rounding with the Numerically Controlled machine. We focused on developing eco-friendly production by using the scrap materials in the sofa during the manufacturing process.
- Inspiration
- In the living space, dining chairs and relaxation sofas have been proposed as necessary furniture already. However, when we analyzing actual behavior, it was found that there were many situations where a chair was required to hold the posture of movement in the middle of standing and sitting. We found the possibility of a high stool that can sit in a posture close to standing.
