About Closet AI Resale Commerce Platform

Closet AI is a mobile resale platform for second hand clothing. Users upload clothing images, and the application generates categories, descriptions and suggested prices based on resale data. During negotiation, the system drafts reply suggestions that users can edit or approve, so final decisions stay with the seller. A reward system tracks progress through quests, badges and milestones. The platform was developed through research on resale behavior. The aim is to reduce the time and effort that discourage participation in circular fashion.

Ruoxuan Pan's Closet AI Resale Commerce Platform emerges within the expanding intersection of sustainable consumption practices and artificial intelligence-enabled commerce, positioning itself within contemporary design discourse that seeks to reconcile environmental consciousness with seamless digital user experience. The interface demonstrates sophisticated chromatic intelligence through its distinctive pairing of vibrant chartreuse yellow-green with deep violet purple, a complementary relationship that achieves both visual distinction and functional clarity while suggesting thematic associations with growth, renewal, and transformation that align conceptually with the platform's mission of extending garment lifecycle. The compositional progression across three screens reveals thoughtful information architecture and emotional journey mapping, beginning with an approachable, optimistic welcome environment rendered in warm pale yellow that establishes trust and accessibility, then transitioning to focused task environments in authoritative violet that maintain visual consistency while supporting concentrated user engagement with product evaluation and listing activities. The product presentation demonstrates restraint and clarity, positioning merchandise photography within clean white cards that provide visual breathing room and direct attention without distraction, while structured attribute fields below communicate essential information through scannable hierarchical typography that respects user cognitive load and supports efficient decision-making. The organic irregular shapes functioning as background elements and notification containers introduce playful personality and visual texture without compromising functional legibility, suggesting influence from biomorphic design traditions and contemporary illustration aesthetics that humanize digital interfaces and reduce the sterile quality sometimes associated with purely geometric compositions. The gamification elements including progress indicators and earnings displays acknowledge contemporary understanding of behavioral design and user motivation systems, integrating achievement feedback naturally within the compositional flow rather than as intrusive overlay. The swipe-based interaction paradigm suggested by the "Swipe Deck" nomenclature and sequential screen presentation demonstrates adaptation of familiar social media interaction patterns to commercial contexts, lowering cognitive barriers to adoption while maintaining the platform's distinctive visual identity through consistent chromatic and typographic systems. Technical execution reveals attention to contemporary interface standards including appropriate touch-target sizing for primary actions, persistent navigation for wayfinding security, translucent overlays for spatial depth, and rounded-corner geometry that aligns with platform conventions while contributing to the approachable emotional tenor. One might consider how this interface invites users to reimagine their relationship with material possessions, transforming the potentially guilt-laden process of wardrobe decluttering into an optimistic journey of renewal and value creation, where each garment becomes an opportunity for connection with future owners rather than landfill contribution, and where technology serves not as cold efficiency but as supportive partner in more sustainable living practices.

Unique Properties
Closet AI is an AI powered resale platform designed to remove friction from circular fashion. It automates listing creation, pricing suggestions and negotiation support, transforming second hand selling into a streamlined experience. By integrating intelligent automation with a reward system that tracks impact and milestones, Closet AI reduces emotional barriers and encourages sustainable participation, making fashion circulation measurable and efficient.
Dimensions & Packaging
Closet AI is a mobile first digital platform prototyped in Figma at 402 x 874 pixels aligned with iPhone interface standards. The system follows a modular and scalable architecture supporting real time feedback and adaptive interaction flows. A structured design system ensures visual consistency accessibility compliance and responsive layout behavior across future multi platform extensions.

Production Technology
Closet AI was developed through a human centered design process informed by user research and resale behavior analysis. Insights into pricing uncertainty and negotiation stress shaped the interaction framework. Computer vision, natural language generation and data driven recommendations were integrated as supportive technologies. Iterative prototyping refined the system into an assisted workflow that reduces cognitive load while preserving user agency.
Design Challenge
The major challenge was balancing automation with user autonomy. Fully automated systems risk removing agency, while manual systems maintain friction. Closet AI introduces assisted intelligence, where AI drafts and recommends actions but users retain final control. Another challenge was integrating sustainability incentives without overwhelming users. The solution implements subtle impact indicators and milestone badges that reinforce behavior without creating gamified complexity.
Project Duration
The project began in Dec 2025 in Austin and is currently in advanced prototype development.
Operation Flow
Users upload clothing images to generate automatic categories, descriptions, and smart pricing suggestions based on resale data. They publish listings, track engagement insights, and receive recommendations such as price adjustments or repost timing. Users complete quests, earn badges, and unlock milestones as they list, optimize, and close deals. During negotiations, AI drafts reply suggestions that users can edit or approve, keeping full control.
Research
Type of Research: Qualitative behavioral research and workflow analysis. Research Objectives: To identify barriers preventing users from participating in clothing resale despite sustainability awareness. Methodology: User interviews journey mapping and competitive benchmarking. Data Collection: Structured interviews usability testing and prototyping. Participants: Gen Z and Millennial users. Results: Identified negotiation fatigue and listing complexity as key friction points. Insights and Impact: Automation reduces participation barriers and supports circular fashion adoption.
Inspiration
Closet AI was inspired by the gap between sustainable intention and practical behavior. While many Gen Z and Millennial users want to reduce waste, resale platforms often demand time and effort. Listing creation, price negotiation and cross platform management introduce friction that discourages participation. The project explores how artificial intelligence can reduce this friction and connect resale with meaningful environmental impact.
