About Citychamp Dartong Plaza Headquarters and Creative Offices
Citychamp Dartong Plaza is an office building designed as a corporate headquarters with creative offices in Fuzhou, Fujian province, China. The building covers 37,350 square metres over five floors and holds a company headquarters, three affiliate offices, retail units and shared spaces. The circular plan is arranged around a large courtyard, recalling traditional Fujian tulou dwellings, while the vertical rhythm of the facades refers to local wooden shipbuilding. Green atriums and cantilevered terraces shelter movement and reduce energy loss.
Within the evolving discourse of twenty-first century corporate architecture, NDA Group's Citychamp Dartong Plaza Headquarters and Creative Offices represents a compelling synthesis of parametric design methodology and biophilic principles that seeks to transcend conventional workplace typologies, the building's remarkable spiraling form appears to draw inspiration from natural growth patterns, perhaps evoking the unfurling of a fern frond or the logarithmic elegance of a nautilus shell, while simultaneously establishing a distinctive corporate identity through its unmistakable silhouette, the architectural composition demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how curvilinear geometry can create protected interior courtyard spaces while maintaining visual and physical connectivity to the surrounding landscape, the extensive use of horizontal louver systems suggests careful environmental mediation, potentially controlling solar gain while permitting generous daylighting and preserving outward views, the integration of water features throughout the site, from the sinuous reflecting pools that trace the building's perimeter to the fountain arrays animating the plaza spaces, indicates attention to microclimate modification and sensory enrichment of the pedestrian experience, the relationship between architecture and landscape appears deliberately choreographed, with planted areas, water elements, and paved surfaces flowing into one another in a manner that blurs traditional boundaries between building and ground, the secondary domed structure visible in the background suggests a campus approach to the development, potentially housing complementary programmatic functions while establishing architectural dialogue through shared material palettes and curvilinear vocabularies, the presence of human figures throughout the rendering provides essential scale reference while suggesting an environment designed to encourage outdoor activity, informal gathering, and the kind of serendipitous encounters that foster creative collaboration, viewers might contemplate how architectural form can embody organizational values of innovation, connectivity, and environmental stewardship while creating spaces that nurture human wellbeing and productive engagement.

- To create a living showcase of the best ecological practices, the volumes are basically shaped by their green features, both on the inside (generous green atriums that concentrate the circulations), and on the outside (complex system of cantilevered terraces creating sheltered spaces that minimize energy losses and allow building users to move around the building during extreme weather conditions).
- Design Challenge
- CREATING AN URBAN LANDMARK
Emergent development poles sometimes need strong urban landmark to create identity, attract talent and spur growth. Through its daring urban mass and innovative architectural treatment, The Office Hub is set to become one of the most recognizable icons of Fuzhou metropolitan area.
GIVING TRADITION A MODERN SHAPE
The architectural answer strongly brings local traditions into focus, combining the circular typologies of Fujian Tulou with a façade reminiscent of a wooden ship’s hull that creates bountiful opportunities for sustainable technologies, while also fostering public space. - Project Duration
- The project is located in the bustling manufacturing hub of Fuzhou in Southern China's Fujian province. NDA Group won the masterplanning & architecture design competition of in 2014, then proceeded with the preliminary and detailed design. The building is nearing completion in 2020.
- Operation Flow
- Since the building will accommodate the client's headquarters, but also the offices of their affiliate companies, special care is given to strengthen the interaction and cohesion of the different teams sharing the office floors. By arranging the working spaces around a large outdoor patio, the building's organization invites interaction and community building on its extensive green outdoor terraces, that can be used for impromptu meetings or for large corporate events. The ample provisions of F&B / retail spaces on the ground floor ensure that the building responds to all the requests of the millennial workforce, from creative working spaces to easily accessible facilities such as cafes, banks, gyms, etc.
- Inspiration
- FUJIAN TULOU
The general massing of the building is informed by a traditional local typology that features an exquisite circular layout centered around a generous courtyard, one that both protects and cultivates the community.
SHIPBUILDING
Echoing a wooden ship’s hull, the compelling vertical rhythm of the main facades pays tribute to the local tradition of shipbuilding, for centuries part of the economic and cultural landscape of Fuzhou.
