About Chengdu Hyperlane Park Retail Architecture

Chengdu Hyperlane Park is a mixed-use urban development in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. The project forms a continuous corridor 2.4 kilometres long, with a gross floor area of 135,324 square metres. Retail, residential and creative spaces are combined along a public green corridor. The creative spaces can be changed into skate parks, art installations or performance areas. The site is close to a music conservatory, and the design follows a musical theme through six groups of architectural forms and facade lines. Curved facades face the surrounding neighbourhood.

Within the evolving discourse of contemporary urban design, this visualization of Aedas's Hyperlane Park retail architecture exemplifies a significant development in the integration of commercial program with public landscape infrastructure. The elevated promenade, rendered in warm copper-toned cladding that appears to undulate like a living organism through the urban fabric, suggests an ambitious reimagining of the traditional shopping street as a three-dimensional public garden suspended above the city. The design appears to draw upon precedents in landscape urbanism and the High Line phenomenon while advancing a distinctly contemporary formal vocabulary characterized by flowing parametric curves and layered green terraces. Technical accomplishment is evident in the seamless integration of multiple programmatic elements, with ground-level retail pavilions, elevated walkways, rooftop gardens, and sculptural installations coalescing into a unified compositional gesture. The chromatic strategy employs the warmth of the copper-hued structure to create visual continuity across nearly a kilometer of development, while the verdant planted areas establish dialogue between built form and natural systems that speaks to contemporary concerns with biophilic design and urban ecology. Thematic resonance emerges through the project's apparent meditation on connectivity, community, and the potential for commercial architecture to generate authentic public space. The sinuous form may reference natural waterways or organic growth patterns, suggesting an architecture that flows rather than imposes upon its context. Sculptural elements scattered along the promenade, including figures in vivid orange and gold, invite playful interaction and wayfinding, while the rooftop gardens blooming with purple and amber vegetation demonstrate commitment to sensory richness and seasonal variation. One might consider how such interventions transform the experience of urban retail from transactional necessity to genuine pleasure, inviting contemplation of what commercial architecture might contribute to civic life when conceived with generosity and vision.

Unique Properties
The project is proximal to a music conservatory campus to its North. Residential and educational developments envelop the surrounding neighborhood. Inspired by syllabic rhythms and sounds, the design team fosters this musical motif through six different groups of architectural forms and facade lines. The fluid layout of the design grants the building unity with its surrounding textures to highlight the project's harmonious blend with its community.

Production Technology
Inspired by syllabic rhythms and sounds, the design team fosters this musical motif through six different groups of architectural forms and facade lines. The movement of the project transcends the facade design. The curves of the facade face the development's neighborhood and are connected by vertical metal elements.
Project Duration
The project started in July 2020 in Chengdu Sichuan, China.
Operation Flow
The main portion of the development is allocated to a variety of businesses and functions such as retail, residential and creative space. The creative space can be transformed to skate parks, interactive art installations or performance space that appeals to people of all ages to enrich the public green corridor.
Research
The site located on Xueyuan lu East, street facade reach to 2.4km, and adjacent to Sichuan Music College. The tremendous street facade and relative shallow depth could let project itself blend into its urban context naturally. Based on the concept “Hyperlane” to connect people and the city, the project would be a bridge of social contact, and also a flexible urban public space that react to people’s activities. Based on these objectives it would become an integrated growing-type urban organism.
Inspiration
The Internet revolution and coronavirus have instigated a massive change in work, leisure, communication and travel. With the rise of technology comes drastic society attitudes and ideologies towards space and architectural design must evolve to accommodate these changes. In collaboration with ASPECT and BPI, Aedas designs the 2.4km long Hyperland Park brimming with social, retail and creative space– the future of mixed-use development.
