About Chalets Dada Residential Building

The basic geometrical design was inspired by a child's scribbling when he was asked to create a house. A play between solids, voids and materials was experimented in order to have the final result Located in the high highlands of Lebanon's Faraya Resorts, Chalets Dada exemplify beauty and luxury. The composition is built on the foundation of a ground level hosting one large apartment bordered by a flower garden. Two unusual duplexes are stoned with Terrazzo on the first and attic floors.

Joy Alexandre Harb's Chalets Dada Residential Building emerges as a distinguished exemplar of contemporary alpine residential architecture, demonstrating how vernacular building traditions may be thoughtfully reinterpreted through a modernist formal vocabulary while maintaining profound respect for contextual landscape relationships. The design appears to engage with the long lineage of mountain dwelling typologies, from traditional timber chalets to mid-century alpine modernism exemplified by architects working in mountainous regions, yet the work transcends mere historical reference through its sophisticated articulation of material hierarchies and volumetric composition. The architectural strategy seemingly employs a deliberate fragmentation of building mass into discrete gabled volumes, a technique that reduces perceived scale while creating dynamic roofline rhythms that echo the surrounding mountain silhouettes. One observes particular accomplishment in the handling of the timber screening elements, which function simultaneously as solar control devices, privacy mediators, and compositional rhythm-makers, their vertical striations creating a visual tempo that unifies the disparate building volumes into coherent architectural expression. The material palette demonstrates thoughtful calibration, with the rough stone base establishing geological connection to the alpine terrain, the warm timber elements suggesting forest resources and craft traditions, and the precise metal cladding introducing contemporary technological refinement. The generous glazing strategy suggests an architectural philosophy prioritizing the framing of landscape views as living artworks while dissolving conventional boundaries between interior refuge and exterior wilderness. The rendering captures the building in what appears to be golden hour illumination, inviting consideration of how architecture performs differently across daily and seasonal temporal cycles, and how the interplay of light, material, and landscape creates ever-changing experiential conditions for inhabitants.

Unique Properties
Located in the high mountains of Faraya Resorts in Lebanon, the Chalets Dada embodies beauty and sophistication.

At hearts ease, the composition is developed on the base of a ground floor housing one big appartement framed with a flower bed. The first and attic floor houses two unique duplexes which are stoned with Terrazzo.

The layout of the building is a series of simple geometric shapes with a play in solids and voids and in materials
Dimensions & Packaging
The building is layered with three floors and a basement, hosting one single residential unit and two duplexes. Each floor has a built area of 220m2 including external walls which equals to a 880m2 of total built up area for the building.

Production Technology
Choosing the mix of mechanical fixed natural stones covering large-sized windows and ending with a repetitive pattern of solid wood allowed us to embed electro mechanical details into the finishes
Design Challenge
Due to the very harsh weather conditions in the area and the modern design of the building with large windows, we had to create adapted details that will not change the buildings shape and research for high performing materials to widthstand exterior conditions
Project Duration
The project started in February 2022 and will be finished in November 2024 in the Faraya Mountains in Lebanon
Operation Flow
With its large windows, the ground floor has an advantage of interacting with nature, hosting a 400m2 garden visible from any room in the appartement. Whereas the other two duplexes, thanks to their elevated position in the building, have unique views of the snowy mountains of Faraya
Research
It all started with a research, which was done by a local surveyor, on the types of appartement needed in the area, what are the most demanded surfaces in the market, how many people can it host and how far can we go with the luxury of finishes in order to sell the appartements the fasted. This study lead us to create three appartements having different and unique properties in order to meet all tastes.
Inspiration
The inspiration for the building's shape was a children's house scribling. The primitive shape was remodeled according to the client's needs and the rules and regulations of the city.
