About Birds and Coffee Packaging

Every product deserves a right packaging. By developing this packaging, designer helped a successful coffee roaster company to reach new people that value premium quality coffee and care about it's origin. By providing the new look of the packaging, designer was trying to enhance the value of the handmade coffee that comes from almost every continent. The decision to use bird illustrations of each country was based on their elegant nature and also a hand crafted feel they give to the final product. Kraft paper and deep dark brown color of the illustrations also serve the same purpose.

Project Duration
The project took about 2,5monts : it was started on March 2020 and was finnished by the end May.
Operation Flow
The main communication flow between the customer and a coffee roaster is through their online shop. We aimed for new customers who value quality coffee and care about it's origin. In this case the visual communication comes to the front line and the nice packaging is crutial for the better understanding of the product value.
Research
The packaging design creates value added to a product which has major influence on customers purchasing decision process especially at the point of purchase. Visual research was started by investigating the other producer's offer in the same niche of coffee roasters in Lituanian market.
My vision was based on moodboards of different graphic images and typography styles that helped to define the main design solutions. All The birds chosen for the packaging represent each country, are simple but at the same time elegant ant memorable.
Inspiration
I immediately thought of biology theme as a common thread among the nine coffee regions represented. After some sketching we've decided to use bird illustrations. The inspiration was found in a vintage biology books, birdwatcher's guides and botanical magazines and publications that describe the wide variety of species of each country.

The main idea and inspiration was to demonstrate the natural beauty of each coffee producing country and one of the most beautiful creatures are the birds. In inspiration came from the old biology books and birdwatching guides, also modern photography.

I wanted to captivate delicate essence of the words while using the bold brown colour to make the design look good on a Kraft paper.

We are planing to extend the packaging line for the client.

approximately 1 month and the whole project took 2,5months.

The design was commissioned but he client who wanted new packaging for their coffee brand.

The project manifests the craftsmanship of coffee roasters

I was working by myself on this project. It was a calming experience during the Covid.

The technical part of the process in crucial, because we wanted sharp looking images on a craft paper surface.

I have found the colleagues work with the similar style who won the A design award and was inspired to do try it also.

for me every project is unique and has its own challenges, during the designing this work I had to improve my patience and illustration skills and try a bit different style.

I always remember that my old professor was right saying that the main inspiration we can get comes just from two places: ancient cultures and nature.
