About Binh Chau Minera Hot Springs Resort
Binh Chau Minera is a hot springs resort set in a forest in Binh Chau, Vietnam. The Guest House is the core facility and is designed as a new forest vessel that is integrated with the existing forest. An artificial ground extends from the ground to the second floor level, so the impression of the forest continues inside the building. At the other entrance, water and plants are arranged like a waterfall on the cut surface of the ground. A column-free atrium of 18 by 18 meters carries a polyhedral steel roof and guides the flow of visitors.
Situated within the contemporary discourse of environmentally responsive hospitality architecture, this aerial documentation of Binh Chau Minera Hot Springs Resort reveals an accomplished synthesis of regional building traditions with contemporary design sensibilities that has garnered recognition through the A' Design Award program, the composition presents a carefully orchestrated campus of pavilion structures whose distinctive curvilinear roof profiles appear to draw inspiration from both organic natural forms and vernacular Southeast Asian architectural precedents while employing thoroughly contemporary material expressions and spatial organizations, the technical achievement demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how built form might engage tropical landscapes through strategies of fragmentation dispersal and sensitive siting that minimize apparent mass while maximizing connection to surrounding vegetation and distant mountain vistas, the chromatic and material choices evidence thoughtful consideration of how warm timber elements might harmonize with lush green settings while dark roof surfaces recede visually against landscape and sky, compositionally the aerial perspective reveals the masterful way individual structures establish dialogue with one another across landscaped intervals creating a sense of village-like aggregation rather than monolithic institutional presence, thematic concerns appear to embrace questions of how contemporary hospitality environments might honor both natural settings and cultural heritage while providing spaces for restoration and contemplation, the curving forms suggest perhaps an intention to echo geological or hydrological patterns appropriate to a hot springs destination where earth and water provide essential experiential content, iconographically the sweeping rooflines may reference traditional Southeast Asian temple and palace architecture translated into contemporary material vocabulary, viewers might contemplate how this work proposes models for tourism development that seek harmony with rather than domination over natural landscapes

- Production Technology
- The undulating artificial ground at the top of entrance adopted shell structure, to create seamless and beautiful curved ceiling. We made the space look like huge lantern with warm light that attract people by illuminating ceiling only from ground level. The Atrium in the Guest house is 18meters by 18meters column-free stairwell, to put symbolic polyhedral roof by steel-framed, it became a center of flow lines in this high-visible facility.
- Project Duration
- The project started in June 2017 and constructed in November 2020 at Binh Chau, Vietnam.
- Operation Flow
- Site location in Binh Chau Village, about 3hours drive to east from Ho Chi Minh which is the center city of Vietnam. It is located in lush forest, about 3km inland from coastline dotted with tourist area such as beach resorts and casinos. The Guest House have reception and changing room, the guest changes into a swimwear and able to go around with various themes SPAs.
- Inspiration
- There is a natural hot spring which is rare in Vietnam, client requested to create the facility which has the ability to pull in more customers utilizing hot spring. We proposed design plan for hot springs resort fused with forest. In order to make an architecture of 10,000 square meters which like suddenly appears in forest, we aimed to create the facility blends in with surrounding natural environment, have less imposing architectural image and commercial face.
