About Aselsan Cluster Interface Dashboard Display

Aselsan new generation Instrument Cluster Interface enables a new level of user experience for its drivers as part of Aselsan Electric Vehicle System. The UX UI design aims offering users a seamless and intuitive driving experience while reducing cognitive load. By combining minimalistic 2D elements with shaded 3D graphics, enhanced depth and layering is achieved. Essential informations such as speed, charging and power usage states are clearly communicated through half circular gauges. Color-coded warning messages enable users to quickly discern the urgency of any required actions.

Within the evolving landscape of automotive human-machine interface design, this comprehensive dashboard display system exemplifies the refined visual language emerging from contemporary electric vehicle instrumentation development, where traditional analog gauge metaphors undergo thoughtful digital translation while embracing the expanded communicative possibilities of screen-based presentation. The unified design system demonstrates remarkable consistency across diverse functional contexts, from real-time driving metrics through detailed charging parameters to system diagnostic notifications, maintaining visual coherence through careful calibration of color relationships, typographic hierarchies, and spatial organization principles that suggest extensive user experience research informing each design decision. The chromatic strategy proves particularly noteworthy, deploying a deliberately limited palette anchored by deep blue tonalities that reduce eye strain during nocturnal operation while providing sufficient contrast for rapid information acquisition under varying ambient conditions. Arc-form gauge elements reference established automotive visual conventions while their luminous edge treatments and gradient modulations introduce contemporary sophistication appropriate to advanced propulsion technology contexts. The modular information architecture allows seamless transitions between operational states, whether displaying cruising parameters, stationary charging progress, or maintenance alerts, suggesting careful consideration of user cognitive load across diverse interaction scenarios. Typographic choices prioritize legibility and informational clarity, with consistent sizing relationships establishing clear hierarchies between primary metrics and supporting data points. The presentation format itself, arranging multiple screen states in diagonal grid formation, invites appreciation of the systematic thinking underlying the complete interface ecosystem. Viewers might contemplate how such interfaces mediate increasingly complex technological relationships, translating electrical engineering parameters into intuitively comprehensible visual feedback that maintains driver confidence and situational awareness.

Unique Properties
As one of the Aselsan Electric Vehicle System components, Aselsan Instrument Cluster acts as a connection point between driver and vehicle. The UX/UI design aims offering users a clean and intuitive driving experience. Minimal and sharp UI design interacts its users without increasing cognitive load. Overall, 2D components are used together with shaded, 3D graphics to increase the depth and layering. Warning messages are separated into color groups according to criticality level.

Production Technology
UX/UI designs and prototypes are made in Figma.
Design Challenge
Using the new advanced Aselsan Instrument Cluster as a blank canvas, transferring its visual qualities to the driver, designning an expressive, next generation yet subtle and user friendly interface and creating a transparent working environment for the drivers were the main challenges.
Project Duration
The project started in August 2021 in Ankara and finished in January 2024 in Ankara.
Operation Flow
The interaction with the screen is made with the help of a button group. Button group comprises 3 gear selection buttons, one rotary knob which enables cruising within the menus, increasing & decreasing the values by the rotary function and selection with the pushing function. There are 3 more buttons which are functioning as a home, back and brightness button. Additionally, since the vehicle that the cluster is used will operate in a speed-limited area, the speedometer has been set to 25 km/h.
Research
With the determination of UX UI requirements according to vehicles technical features, customer and project needs benchmark and field researches are made in order to assess the recent tendencies both functionally and visually. With the creation of initial designs, series of 3D analyses are made to review the field of view of different types of user groups through the steering wheel. User researches are made with professional commercial vehicle drivers. Revisions are made according to the results.
Inspiration
Aselsans new generation instrument cluster offers a high resolution screen and a wide range of colors to its stakeholders. This high quality screen enables a new level of user experience for electric vehicle drivers. In the design process, improving one of the most crucial touch points of a public transportation drivers working environment and making sure that the drivers are getting the feeling of the technology and electricity behind it, was the main source of inspiration.
