About Adam And Eve Food Packaging

The packaging masterfully blends storytelling, art, and tradition. Inspired by both the biblical narrative and Homer's Odyssey, it pays homage to the timeless tradition of sun drying figs. Vintage botanical illustrations evoke a sense of exploration and discovery, merging art and science in a nod to the notebooks of old explorers. The design celebrates nature's bounty and human ingenuity, creating a rich connection between history, heritage, and the craft of preservation. This packaging transforms a simple fruit into a story of curiosity, artistry, and tradition.

Antonia Skaraki's Adam And Eve Food Packaging emerges from the rich tradition of Mediterranean food culture presentation, where the visual language of packaging serves as a bridge between agricultural heritage and contemporary consumer experience, employing botanical illustration as its primary communicative strategy in a manner that recalls the great natural history artists while speaking fluently to modern sensibilities regarding authenticity and provenance. The designer demonstrates considerable sophistication in harmonizing disparate visual elements into a cohesive brand narrative, wherein the carefully rendered fig leaves and fruit function as more than mere product identification, serving instead as emblems of terroir, traditional cultivation methods, and the transformative process of sun-drying that concentrates both flavor and cultural significance. The technical execution reveals masterful understanding of packaging as a three-dimensional communication surface, with the stand-up pouch format providing both practical functionality and optimal visual real estate for the botanical compositions that dominate each design variant. The aged parchment effect introduces compelling temporal dimension, suggesting historical continuity and recipes passed through generations, while the elegant serif typography establishes a classical foundation that elevates the product positioning beyond commodity status toward artisanal appreciation. The chromatic decisions demonstrate particular acuity, with the warm kraft tones providing neutral ground against which the vivid greens and crimsons of the botanical elements achieve maximum chromatic impact without competing for attention. The scattered fig pieces across the upper register introduce welcome asymmetry within the otherwise balanced compositions, creating visual interest through rhythmic variation while simultaneously communicating product content with appetizing directness. The handwritten script elements, partially obscured and weathered in appearance, invite viewers into an implied narrative of correspondence, perhaps letters between growers and family, that humanizes the commercial context. This packaging system successfully negotiates the tension between heritage authenticity and contemporary shelf presence, offering consumers an invitation to participate in a story of sun-drenched orchards, patient cultivation, and the simple pleasure of fruit preserved at its peak. What stories might these visual elements evoke from one's own memories of Mediterranean landscapes, harvest seasons, or the comfort of traditional foods shared across generations?

Production Technology
Our production technique for the labels used CMYK, screen printing, varnish and slitter rewinder. For the bags B colours Flexo UV was used. The materials used were PP white/permanent and hot foil gold as well as cotton white/S2047N / BG45WH. The special techniques used were varnish, slitter rewinder, laminate and flexo UV. The methodologies were flexo and screen printing.
Design Challenge
The main challenge in the Adam and Eve project was to have an idea that would make this product look really different from its vast competition. We achieved this by integrating the detailed aesthetic of Victorian-era scientific notebooks into a modern packaging design.Balancing the intricacy of hand-drawn illustrations with modern production methods posed technical difficulties, as did ensuring the packaging material was both sustainable and visually evocative of the period. Achieving a cohesive blend of vintage art and contemporary functionality was a significant creative hurdle.
Project Duration
The project started in January and finished in August. It hit the US markets in September.
Operation Flow
This is a project with many variants and different operations. There is a doypack with string figs whith a seal that opens, there is a round pack protected by cling film containing crown figs, based of the traditional sun-dried fig Greek pack and there is a glass jar for fig spread which opens like a normal glass container.
Research
There was research done by the agency's marketing department about the competition in order to see what kind of packaging exists in the Greek and international markets. The agency also looked into the kind of by-products of sun-dried figs in order to suggest to the client other products they could produce based on the figs. The research was also a design research into the packaging trends of similar products. Everything was conducted by the marketing department of the agency with the goal to differentiate the brand from its competitors in the US market.
Inspiration
The Adam and Eve project draws its primary inspiration from Victorian-era scientists' and explorers' notebooks, which were filled with hand-written notes and intricate sketches documenting newly discovered species of flora and fauna. These vintage journals, combining art and science, evoke a sense of discovery and exploration. The packaging design mirrors this tradition, paying homage to the natural world and the historical methods of preserving knowledge and nature’s bounty through detailed illustrations and storytelling.
