About 2021 HBS New Year's Eve Concert Stage
2021 HBS New Year's Eve is a concert stage designed for a televised and online New Year's Eve show. The stage is divided into seven zones, with a central stage and auxiliary stages on both sides. A large gyroscope structure forms the center. The structure is 30 meters wide and 25 meters high and rests on a single steel column. The upper half can be raised by a hydraulic cylinder, and the outer ring is moved by twelve computer-controlled hoists. A curved LED screen, water elements and lighting fixtures complete the setting.
Bin Li's Concert Stage for the 2021 New Year's Eve celebration represents a distinguished achievement in contemporary performance scenography, demonstrating sophisticated integration of architectural form, luminous technology, and symbolic resonance appropriate to marking temporal transition. The design engages traditions of spectacular entertainment architecture while introducing innovative formal vocabulary through its dominant circular armature, which suggests both astronomical instruments and cosmic phenomena. The concentric ring structure creates a powerful visual hierarchy, drawing collective attention toward a central dome that functions as both focal point and symbolic axis mundi connecting earthly celebration to celestial reference. Technical accomplishment manifests in the precise orchestration of lighting systems that transform the stage into a luminous phenomenon, with graduated blue tonalities creating atmospheric depth while crisp white beam projections articulate spatial boundaries and directional energy. The chromatic strategy of predominantly cool blues tempered by warm amber accents in the audience zone establishes a psychological gradient from intimate human gathering to transcendent spectacle. Compositional sophistication appears in the careful balance between the imposing overhead structure and the welcoming undulation of the seating architecture below, creating visual dialogue between aspiration and grounding. The design seems to engage archetypal imagery of cosmic cycles and renewal appropriate to its commemorative function, while the radial organization evokes both traditional mandala structures and contemporary technological aesthetics. One might observe how the suspended quality of the stage elements creates a sense of weightless wonder, inviting contemplation of both human creative achievement and the vast scales of time and space that New Year observances traditionally acknowledge. How might such architectural spectacle shape collective experience of transitional moments?

- Unique Properties
- Hunan TV's 2020-2021 New Year's Eve concert stage design is based on the "Watchtower Stage," "Time Stage," "Dream-chasing Stage," "Starry Stage," and the central stage. Each stage's decoration, lighting installations, and overall structure have been meticulously arranged to create a unique visual feast for the audience. This stage design not only serves its functional purposes but also preserves the beauty and integrity of the stage.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The overall stage design is divided into seven main zones, with the central stage as the focal point and auxiliary stages on both sides. From left to right, they are named "Vigilant Stage," "Chronicle Stage," "Dream Pursuit Stage," and "Starry Stage." The central stage is connected to an extended platform, ending with a circular center stage. Behind the entire stage area is a curved LED screen, interspersed with scenic elements and lighting fixtures, creating a rich background effect. The central stage features a giant gyroscope structure, meticulously engineered to suspend without the need for suspension devices, supported by a central steel column, creating a visually stunning "levitating" effect. The "Vigilant Stage" is primarily composed of a large screen, with two "flying saucer" structures above and below the screen, creating a dynamic visual effect. The "Chronicle Stage" is designed in the shape of an hourglass, adorned with multiple individually controllable lights, evoking a sense of time flow. The "Dream Pursuit Stage" resembles a space station, incorporating water and fire elements for added visual appeal, with a circular CNC water curtain surrounding the stage, displaying various patterns. The "Starry Stage" is illuminated primarily by various light fixtures arranged on a light wall backdrop. Below the stage floor, a network of panels is filled with lights, enhancing the stage's vertical depth perception.

- Production Technology
- The central stage's gyroscope apparatus( the widest part of the structure with a diameter of up to 30 meters and the overall structure with a height reaching 25 meters) offers multiple variations: dividing at its widest section, the upper half of the gyro can be lifted nearly 3 meters high via a hydraulic cylinder at the center, accommodating performances within; its outer ring, controlled by 12 CNC hoists, can ascend and descend as a whole, supporting multiple actors for enriched stage dynamics; the central pillar of the overall structure is hollow, concealing a mechanical lift system for actor mobility. The "Vigilance Stage" hosts visual interactions and serves as a host area. The "Time Stage" features inset lighting for split usage, creating modern retro visuals to complement diverse performances. The "Dream-chasing Stage" comprises numerous modular elements on the water surface, offering varied configurations to enhance stage effects. The "Stellar Stage" caters to band performances, fostering explosive, dazzling, and energetic atmospheres. At the end of the extended stage lies a circular platform with a circular LED screen lift mechanism, surrounded by concealed lighting, creating a contrasting visual texture. Combined with on-site fireworks, pyrotechnics, lasers, and water effects, the audience is continuously treated to surprises.

- Inspiration
- We aim to capture all the beautiful moments on this stage, drawing inspiration from the spinning top in the movie "Inception," shaping the "giant spinning top" as the core image of the stage, presenting a design that is unique both in appearance and symbolism.
