Working within a constrained budget, we sourced synthetic boards from multiple factories and applied handcrafted treatments, sanding, spraying, and material layering to imbue each surface with its own texture and character. In lieu of unavailable thin stone panels, we sculpted clay by hand, incorporating perforations and pigments to simulate the brushwork of Chinese ink paintings, infusing the space with a quiet, poetic quality.

Working within budgetary constraints, we intentionally departed from standardized interior construction. Instead, we sourced synthetic panels from diverse suppliers, layering contrasting finishes and textures. Each surface was hand treated sanded, sprayed, cut, and assembled on-site,bringing warmth and individuality to the material palette while breaking away from visual flatness. In place of unavailable thin stone slabs, we turned to clay as an expressive medium. Each surface was hand-shaped, perforated, and pigmented to evoke the layered strokes of ink painting. This artisanal approach reinterprets the visual depth of stone while referencing the Eastern sensibility of restraint, natural imperfection, and poetic silence. The result is a material language that feels soulful, deliberate, and quietly powerful.

The apartment’s low beam structure and overhead ductwork posed spatial challenges. By concentrating all mechanical systems above the entry and storage areas, we intentionally lowered the ceiling at the entrance, creating a moment of compression, before revealing a dramatic, open living area. This orchestrated transition brings emotional impact and spatial contrast.

A fusion of Chinese ink-inspired stone tables, classical stone textures, and Italian walnut furniture reflects a dialogue between Eastern philosophy and Western craftsmanship offering a subtle, poetic cross-cultural experience.

Located near Taoyuan International Airport, the apartment features expansive windows reminiscent of an airplane cabin, carrying the designer’s vision of a journey across cultures and atmospheres. The entrance defined by black grilles and subtle lighting leads to a seamless, open-plan living and dining area that evokes the spaciousness of flight. Each of the two bedrooms showcases a distinct style, reflecting the diverse destinations of travel and the layered identities of the inhabitants.

The client envisioned a home that could double as a private residence and a hosting venue. To accommodate this, we created a multi-functional room that blends seamlessly with the public zone when open, and transforms into a private bedroom when needed offering both flexibility and discretion.
