Interview with Be Genius Design

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
We started learning design in university and gradually developed a love and passion for it throughout our academic careers. Through years of dedicated work, we have continuously explored and developed high-quality design concepts, aspiring to become a better and more outstanding design team.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
Be Genius is also a collection of contradictions, a unique entanglement among designers. It likes simple life but never misses any details; It is colorful, but only black and white are distinct; It is lively, but only black and white; It is like the two sides of a reflection in a still pool of water, and also like the Taoist black and white distinct yet intertwined yin and yang fish. This is Be Genius.
What is "design" for you?
The subject of design is vast, and designing is not just designing but also not exclusive to humans. Anything that can drive the forward evolution of natural species can be referred to as successful design, which is not subject to subjective consciousness. From this perspective, design is not limited to designing a product, a project, or a pattern. Design can be a revolutionary innovation of management mode, the creation of an experiential process, or a public-spirited social change. Any innovation that can have a beneficial effect on the evolution and development of natural species can be regarded as design.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
Urban detail experience design Cultural creativity product design
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
We love to design products related to cultural creativity. These designs provide us with an opportunity to learn more about the historical and cultural stories of different places. We are good at researching and summarizing these stories, and clearly, our team of designers enjoys it. We like to express high-quality culture in the form of high-quality design, making more people pay attention to these cultural stories and generate sufficient business effects. This is also our thinking of using design to promote humanistic values.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
We love any technology or material, regardless of where it comes from, and we hope to turn it into a meaningful work in our hands.
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
Excited and excited, at the same time calmly analyze the problems faced in order to make it better.
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
Whether it can effectively help people does not create more other problems.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
Our designers firmly believe that these small thoughts will drive social development and will continue to serve them - the driving force behind these thoughts comes from commercial design projects, but it is not a commercial activity, but a public responsibility as a member of society. We hope to create public value through design, which can truly make design work and use these values as a team and corporate responsibility to make every effort to promote society towards a more humane direction.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
With the development of AI, the boundaries of design will become further blurred, and producing good results will no longer be a major concern for designers, allowing them more time to consider the essence of design, making it more in line with social development, more user-friendly, and more valuable for public welfare.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
Our design inspiration comes from nature, books, and everything around us. We are always good at finding our design entry points in our surroundings.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
If we have to talk about styles, we should belong to a minimalist and practical style. Due to the variety of projects we have worked on, we are able to flexibly adjust our design styles. This has also formed our unique design language: we study various cultures and summarize them, presenting them in the most suitable way for people.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
We are a design team from China, and we naturally live and work in China. We love our country, which boasts a history of thousands of years of culture that profoundly influences our design methods and concepts. Chinese people value the principle of harmony, and we spend more time considering our own development and creating better designs to make the society and the people around us more beautiful with our abilities.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
The sense of accomplishment and benefits coexist, so that designers can truly feel that they are valuable.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
We usually get involved in engineering projects and, at the beginning of each project, designers immerse themselves in the project sites, seeking cultural context and exploring the underlying cultural significance. At the same time, they identify small details in urban construction, adjusting and beautifying them through visual, auditory, olfactory and other means in order to achieve a more visually appealing and practical result.
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
Lamps, desks, kitchen integration, more comfortable cabinets and places for cats to play.
Can you describe a day in your life?
Wake up at 5 a.m., read until 7 a.m., send the children to school from 7 to 8 a.m., drive to the company, start working at 9 a.m., take a short break at noon, finish work at 6 p.m., play and learn with the children after returning home, relax and read, go out for a run or exercise, come home to wash and rest.
Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, just break through the shackles and make the design you like. Read more and study more, talk less and do more, don't just think about expressing yourself, just settle down and study, and one day you will shine.
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
"Strictly control the project timeline and define the milestones to be achieved at each stage. Strive to maintain a balance between perfection and time."
Who are some of your clients?
Vanke Group, Overseas Chinese Town Group, China Merchants Group and many other real estate groups, as well as many government departments and product manufacturers. In short, our customers are from all walks of life. As long as there is demand, we will respond to it.
