Design Interview

25 May 2026 · Human Ambient Design Gilet Refrigerante

The core principle behind my design philosophy is rooted in "Human Ambient Design"—the practice of crafting the very aura and presence of the wearer. Rather than chasing fleeting trends, the guiding idea is to explore a mindful perspective by creating high-quality, timeless garments that people can cherish over the long term. I approached this specific project as an experimental creation to demonstrate how design can elevate surplus materials into exceptional new value.

The primary inspiration stems from the timeless aesthetics of traditional functional garments, driven by a desire to redefine utility wear into sophisticated pieces that seamlessly blend into modern lifestyles. By upcycling meticulously selected deadstock fabrics, my goal is to express that ecological circularity and refined aesthetics can naturally and beautifully coexist.

The most critical challenge of this design was seamlessly balancing the thermal functionality of releasing heat with a beautiful, oversized silhouette. In conventional heat-protection apparel, technical elements are designed to prioritize maximum utility and effectively solve practical problems for the wearer. My priority was to respect that essential heat-release utility while evolving it to fit the refined silhouette and movement of contemporary fashion.

Specifically, what I sought to achieve was to expand the potential of heat-protection utility and offer a functional yet attractive alternative. I aimed to prove that a fan-equipped cooling vest could transcend its practical boundaries and deliver its own unique appeal as a finished garment.

Regarding this award-winning design, I have no intention of pursuing mass production for this specific project, as my focus here is on a design approach that respects the limited availability of the material. For this artwork, instead of chasing volume, I embrace the inherent limitations of available deadstock, treating it as a unique, conscious creation. Moving forward, my plan is to further expand this mindset within my core design philosophy, "Human Ambient Design" (the practice of designing the very aura and presence of the wearer), and through a process of trial and error, I will continue to craft garments that can be cherished over the long term.

Designer Interview

My career in fashion began during my student years, driven by a genuine passion for clothing. This interest naturally led me to study at a fashion college to master the fundamentals of garment construction with the aim of becoming a designer. However, breaking into the industry directly as a designer is highly competitive, and although I secured a position at an apparel company, I did not step into my ideal role immediately.

Faced with this transitional phase, I chose to strategically focus on building core practical skills for the future. Utilizing my personal time outside of work, I dedicated myself to earning pattern-making certifications to deeply understand the realities of garment structural design, while also mastering essential digital design tools. Eventually, this self-driven technical expertise was recognized, leading to the opportunity to officially transition into the role of a designer. While my path was not linear, every step of that experience shaped my commitment to continuous improvement and rigorous, detailed craftsmanship.

With the rise of artificial intelligence, translating ideas and conceptual imagery into visual expressions has become significantly more accessible, which represents a remarkable evolution. It democratizes the initial stages of creativity and opens up unprecedented possibilities for exploration.

However, as generating concepts becomes effortless, I consider that the future of design will increasingly center on how we bridge the gap between digital concepts and physical reality. I believe that the actual execution—faithfully shaping a garment through precise construction, selecting the appropriate materials, and achieving a refined fit that elevates the wearer's presence—remains the irreplaceable core value of human craftsmanship. Ultimately, I believe the future of design lies in leveraging technological tools for creative inspiration while relying on deep, practical expertise to meticulously bring those visions to life.
