Grand Interview

17 June 2026 · Moebius L'anello

What fascinated me most about the Moebius strip was not simply its mathematical structure, but the symbolism it carries. A Moebius strip has no clear beginning or end, existing as one continuous surface. I found a strong parallel between this idea and meaningful human relationships. As people share experiences and grow together, their lives become intertwined in ways that transcend individuality. I wanted to express that sense of connection through jewelry. Rather than recreating the Moebius strip literally, I sought to translate its essence into a form that could be experienced and worn every day. The result was the Moebius Ring—a piece that embodies continuity, connection, and unity through a contemporary design language.

I wanted to move beyond the conventional idea of matching rings simply sharing the same appearance. To me, a relationship is not about two identical individuals becoming one. It is about two complete individuals creating a new meaning together. This philosophy became the foundation of the design. Each ring stands independently, but when the two rings come together, they reveal the complete Moebius form. This interaction is more than a visual effect. It symbolizes the idea that while each person remains whole, a deeper story emerges through connection. The design invites couples to participate in that narrative and discover the symbolism for themselves.

This was one of the most challenging aspects of the project. The geometry needed to remain precise in order to communicate the concept clearly, yet the ring also had to feel comfortable enough for daily wear. If the edges became too sharp, the piece would lose its practicality. We developed numerous prototypes, refining angles, proportions, and transitions through an extensive process of testing and adjustment. The goal was to create a form that appears architectural and crisp while maintaining a smooth, comfortable wearing experience. Achieving that balance between conceptual clarity and functionality was essential to the final design.

I believe that great design is often the result of subtraction rather than addition.Although the Moebius strip is mathematically complex, its core message is remarkably simple: continuity and connection. Throughout the design process, I focused on preserving that essence while removing any unnecessary elements. The final design appears minimal and refined, yet it contains layers of meaning beneath its surface. For me, simplicity is not about reducing complexity—it is about expressing complexity with clarity and elegance.

The Moebius Ring could not have been realized through digital design alone. While CAD technology allowed us to develop the structure and proportions, the subtle transitions between surfaces required the expertise of highly skilled artisans. We collaborated closely with experienced Korean craftspeople throughout multiple stages of prototyping and refinement.Particular attention was given to polishing and finishing. Maintaining the sharp definition of the form while creating a soft, refined reflection of light demanded meticulous hand-finishing techniques. The final piece represents a dialogue between contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship.

Modern relationships are increasingly diverse and personal.People value connection, but they also wish to maintain their individuality. I wanted the design to reflect this reality. The Moebius Ring can be appreciated as a personal object, expressing the wearer's own style and identity. At the same time, when paired with its counterpart, it reveals a shared narrative and deeper symbolism. This duality mirrors how contemporary couples balance independence with togetherness.

The emotional significance of an engagement ring was central to the design process.Diamonds have long represented commitment, devotion, and enduring love. Rather than rejecting those traditions, I wanted to reinterpret them through the language of the Moebius Ring. The diamond was integrated into the flow of the design so that it feels like a natural extension of the form rather than an applied decoration. My goal was to create harmony between tradition and innovation, allowing both to coexist within a single piece.

One of the most rewarding discoveries has been seeing how deeply people connect with the story behind the design. Many customers are initially drawn to the ring's distinctive appearance, but their appreciation often grows when they learn about the symbolism embedded within the Moebius concept. This response reinforced my belief that people seek more than beautiful objects—they seek meaning, memories, and personal connections. The success of the Moebius Ring demonstrated that conceptual design and commercial appeal are not mutually exclusive. When a concept resonates emotionally, it becomes accessible and relevant to a wider audience.

Receiving the A’ Design Award was both an honor and an encouragement.More importantly, it reinforced my belief that conceptual jewelry can engage people across different cultures and backgrounds. The recognition gave me greater confidence to continue exploring designs rooted in narrative, symbolism, and emotional resonance.Moving forward, I hope to create collections that allow people to connect their own experiences, relationships, and memories to the jewelry they wear.

I believe jewelry exists to do more than decorate the body.People often choose jewelry to commemorate meaningful moments, celebrate relationships, and preserve memories. Because of this, I believe jewelry should carry emotional significance as well as aesthetic value. The Moebius Ring combines the idea of infinite continuity with the experience of human connection. Where these two concepts meet, the piece becomes more than an object—it becomes a symbol of shared experiences and enduring bonds.Ultimately, my goal is not simply to create jewelry, but to create meaningful objects that hold stories. That philosophy continues to guide both the Moebius Ring and the future direction of 'ago' Jewelry.
