About Imran Othman
With more than a decade of experience as an Industrial Designer, Imran Othman has been behind innovative product designs from small start-up companies to internationally recognisable brands. The talented designer blends creativity and imagination to produce simple yet elegant designs that have a global appeal. In 2011, Imran was the youngest ever designer to be internationally recognised by the Singapore President’s annual Design Award. His designs were chosen over submissions from top competitors including BMW Designworks and Dyson. More recently Imran’s company; CoolwaresLab won the LUX Designer Award for the Best Industrial Design Consultancy in South East Asia in 2019.

The seamless blend of design and technology results in an elegantly compact acoustic speaker. This lightweight speaker provides users with the freedom to use it anytime and anywhere, as it requires neither electronic component nor electrical supply. It is an ideal choice to boost up the sound for both outdoor and indoor activities and hands-free video calls.
- Inspiration
- There is a high demand for a Non-electric speaker in the market. Unfortunately, the current Non-electric speakers selling on the market either could not put it in the backpack or does not have the ability to enhance the sound performance from the cell phone. Our design direction for the next generation speaker is to synthesize a mechanical solution with a design that blend seamlessly with lightweight, compact and mobility.
- Research
- Sound Wave Reflection. Echoes are the sound of your own voice reflecting back to your ears.The sound is enhance caused by an accumulation of reflected sound waves off the walls built in the Akoustand. The sound wave will continue to bounce around in Akoustand, or reverberate, until it has lost all its energy.
- Challenge
- Achieving the best sound experience acquire the most greatest patience to evaluate every creative and alternative solutions. Every possible solutions were verified thru many trial and errors and countless testing before it was deemed a complete product solution.
- Realization and Technology
- The synthesis mold material between poly carbonate and ABS reflect sound waves efficiently for a great listening experience.
- Operation and Interaction
- Place your cell phone on the slot stand and it will deliver a rich, clearer and more natural sounds from its unique mechanically engineered design.

- The project started in April 2018 in Australia and completed in November 2018, and was sold on Amazon USA.
