Design Details
- Unique Properties
- The sustainable mattress features gluefree physical fastening, eliminating formaldehyde emissions and ensuring health. It uses traceable recycled ocean fibers, safeguarding marine ecosystems at the source. Fiber extraction provides a source of income for coastal communities in need. The antimite, breathable fibers ensure a healthy, comfortable sleep. By using recycled ocean fibers, the mattress links ocean protection, community development, and quality living, offering a sustainable solution.
- Inspiration
- The mattress is inspired by the philosophy of symbiosis and the inclusiveness of ocean, which are reflected in the use of ecofriendly materials and the longlasting friendly relationship between the mattress, the user, and the environment. Minimalist in form, it uses low saturation natural tones such as ocean blue and sand color and natural materials. Combined with the gluefree physical fastening and detachable design, it promotes a sustainable way of living in harmony with nature.
- Research
- Traditional mattresses often use adhesives and composite materials, which can cause indoor air pollution and make disposal difficult. To solve this, the research and development team introduces innovative materials and structures and physical fastening to provide reliable support and avoid harmful chemical emissions. By combining sustainable materials like recycled ocean fibers, natural camel hair, and soy based elastic foam, the mattress embraces sustainability across its full lifecycle.
- Challenge
- The core challenge lay in integrating ecofriendly materials like recycled ocean fibers, natural camel hair, and soy based elastic foam, each with distinct performance, while meeting essential sleep requirements such as health, comfort, support, and breathability. This was achieved through a refined ergonomic multilayer design and composite processing, allowing each functional layer to complement the others, elevating the overall sleep quality.
- Realization and Technology
- The mattress adopts gluefree physical fastening, joining all layers without using chemical adhesives. Its surface fabric is woven from recycled ocean fibers, offering softness, abrasion resistance, and breathability. Natural camel hair adds excellent moisture wicking performance, skinfriendliness, and thermal insulation. The mattress also uses soy based elastic foam derived from renewable soybean oil to deliver strong support and partial biodegradability, enhancing ecofriendliness.
- Operation and Interaction
- The mattress is designed to offer long term comfort and immediate reassurance. Its detachable design allows the replacement of components, extending its lifespan while adapting to diverse sleep preferences. Free from adhesives, the mattress is safe to use immediately after unboxing, eliminating concerns about the emissions of odors or harmful substances often associated with new mattresses.
- Project Duration and Location
- Designed and developed in December 2024 in Foshan, Guangdong, China, the project was officially launched in April 2025 in China.
