Design Details
- Unique Properties
- This project overcomes restrictive regulations and an irregular site by optimizing natural light and spatial organization. Instead of light wells, strategic openings and a fragmented façade design ensure daylight access while maintaining privacy. A modular brick lattice shell unifies the exterior, enhancing aesthetics and urban integration. Balancing functionality and historical context, the project challenges conventional codes to create a refined, cohesive apartment living experience.
- Inspiration
- This project addresses restrictive regulations and the site's irregular geometry, aiming to ensure optimal natural lighting and functional harmony. The design focuses on enhancing quality of life and tranquility, connecting with nature and the sky. The goal was to create a true home where all residents feel satisfaction and belonging. The flexible design balances functionality, aesthetics, and user needs, offering a unique apartment living experience.
- Research
- The Salamat Residential Apartment is a fascinating example of how architecture can navigate complex constraints while maintaining spatial quality and aesthetic coherence. Given the challenges irregular plot shape, limited natural light, restrictive municipal regulations, and neighboring constraints the project adopts a strategic approach that balances functionality, privacy, and urban integration. Key Architectural Strategies: 1. Optimizing Natural Light - Instead of relying on traditional patios or light wells, the design strategically places windows and terraces to maximize daylight. - A break in the side wall redirects light deeper into the interior.
- Challenge
- The most challenging aspect of the Salamat Residential Apartment project was addressing the constraints posed by the irregular shape of the plot, limited access to natural light, and restrictive municipal regulations. The plot's geometry was difficult, creating issues with spatial organization and façade design. The building had limited frontage, which further constrained the design, requiring a solution to provide both functional living spaces and an aesthetically coherent exterior. The most critical challenge was the lack of light from two sides due to neighboring properties and city regulations that restricted direct views.
- Realization and Technology
- Using brick as a traditional material, but with a modern interpretation and execution.
- Operation and Interaction
- This design uses traditional brick in a modern way to create a unique and functional space. The interaction happens through the thoughtful placement of bricks, allowing natural light to enter and creating a comfortable environment. The design optimizes space by using carefully positioned openings and perforated walls, improving the flow of air and light, and providing better privacy and views. This approach results in a harmonious and efficient living space.
