Design Details

Unique Properties
The application promptly notifies users and provides guidance on the appropriate actions in the event of potential fraudulent activity, enabling users to take immediate steps. For high-grade cardholders, the application offers integrated concierge services, such as restaurant reservations, that can be completed entirely within the application.
Inspiration
In Japan’s growing cashless society, JCB developed its member application under the concept of "Card-App Integration." The application has been renewed with features addressing challenges such as difficulty in tracking card usage and increasing fraud risks. The platform aims to support all users regardless of financial literacy, creating a secure and convenient service experience that can be relied on while working to establish new value in card services.
Research
The research objective was to redefine the app experience by balancing security and convenience to reduce card fraud risks. Surveys, interviews, and usability testing revealed users' desire to view security status within the app. This led to the implementation of new security screens, achieving integrated value delivery through both card and application security features. Security visualization provides user confidence and leads to increased usage, as demonstrated by an App Store rating of 4.6.
Challenge
The application renewal process required a significant investment of time to determine appropriate UI and service implementations that would address users' concerns regarding fraud and overspending. Through repeated user interviews and leveraging business expertise, it was determined that visualizing security status would be key to solving these challenges. The solution includes features such as a "Security Setting Status" that displays security levels through color indicators.
Realization and Technology
- The development process, utilizing agile methodology with scrum teams, involved comprehensive research including input from 20,000 users and interviews with over 50, to analyze strengths and weaknesses. Multiple user personas were established and verified through design processes during the two-year planning and development phase. - Post-release optimization continues through regular user testing and feedback integration, resulting in an intuitive UI/UX that enhances user experience.
Operation and Interaction
- The application displays the card security status, allowing users to execute necessary actions through the most direct pathways with minimum steps. - Personalization features based on membership levels have been redesigned to enhance the concierge service for high-grade cardholders, ensuring a seamless reservation completion experience within the application. - Easy-to-read fonts, adjustable sizes, and simplified financial expressions create intuitive operability for users with varying needs.
Project Duration and Location
This renewal project commenced in April 2021 and was initiated in November 2023, with ongoing continuous improvements.
Specifications
Usage Status at a Glance: The app provides a clear and accessible view of usage history. Statement Management: The app allows for efficient sorting and filtering for quick access.
