Design Details
- Unique Properties
- As an office of an interior design firm, it boasts pure elements and materials such as curves, paint, stone veneers, and strip lights to break away from the traditional office setting. An office with a high ceiling increases the flow of natural light into the space. Besides, an open layout allows the natural illumination to spread throughout the entire space, with soft white glows blending into shades of gray. Gentle curves embrace round shapes and soft edges, creating a flowing aesthetic and guiding the eyes more smoothly through spaces. A serene and cozy work environment is created by breaking up the rigidity of straight lines.
- Inspiration
- Environmental psychology can guide us in creating calming, restorative spaces to discuss dream homes with clients. The light gives off a softer, warm glow on the floor and gaps in the grayscale backdrop. A subdued color palette and flexible, casual layout subtly reveal a sense of profoundness. This setting allows for thoughtful reflections on clients' expectations and needs, helping to refine ideas with a clear mind.
- Research
- The space beneath the beam and stairway shelves offer ample space for storage. They can also provide a great platform to turn the items into a nice display. LED light strips are embedded within the cabinets, flooring, and junctions, adding interest and dynamic visual flow. The interplay of light and shadow embodies the spirit of Wabi-sabi, a design philosophy that values simplicity, imperfection, and impermanence.
- Challenge
- To create an environmentally friendly and healthy space, organic and natural materials are selected over highly processed ones that could contribute to pollution. The design features a high ceiling to maximize natural light and maintain good ventilation. It reduces the need for artificial lighting and air conditioning, which lowers energy consumption and decreases the carbon footprint.
- Realization and Technology
- Smart home, ultra-thin magnetic lamp, PU rock board, Qiyan art paint, system board, solid oak veneer, environmentally friendly latex paint, iron parts, checkered tiles
- Operation and Interaction
- The front door opens into a semi-open layout, inviting a sense of depth and transparency. Not only does the semi-open floor plan create a sense of spaciousness and flow, but it also makes the best use of the space. On the first floor, partition walls separate the office area from the break room. The walls are covered with hand-applied plaster, offering a warm, textured surface that evokes a sense of authenticity that resonates with the Wabi-Sabi ethos. The seating area features partitions with rough stone veneer, continuing the natural and unrefined aesthetic. The partition wall behind is accented with fair-faced concrete hollow bricks, adding a harmonious touch to the space's overall tone.
- Project Duration and Location
- The project finished in July 2024 in Taoyuan City, Taiwan.
- Specifications
- The interior design area is about 135 square meters. The layout consists of an entrance, office area, break room, conference room and bathroom.
