FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COMO, Italy, April 20, 2025 /DesignNewswire/ A' Design Award & Competition has announced that Port Holiday Home by Chu Chieh Liang, designed for Senyi Interior Design, has been granted the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space and Exhibition Design category. The recognition forms part of the 2024 - 2025 A' Design Award & Competition and was decided through blind peer review by an international grand jury panel of established academics, design professionals and press members, who scored anonymized entries against predetermined criteria.
The Silver A' Design Award Explained
The Silver A' Design Award celebrates top-tier designs that embody excellence and innovation. This award acknowledges creations that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, reflecting the designer's deep understanding and skill. Silver A' Design Award recipients are recognized for their contribution to raising industry standards and advancing the practice of design. Their work often incorporates original innovations and elicits a strong emotional response, making a notable impact on the improvement of everyday life.
Regarding Port Holiday Home
Port is a holiday home of 201.6 square meters in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, with a view over the harbour. The original two-bedroom layout was changed into three bedrooms so that family and friends can stay comfortably. A wardrobe serves as the wall between two bedrooms, which saves space, adds storage and reduces sound transmission. The living area offers three gathering places: a sofa zone, a dining table and a bar placed at opposite ends. A black tone, a grille ceiling and a black mirror under the beam reduce the visual weight of the low beams, while curved shapes soften the interior.
About Chu Chieh Liang
Sen (forest), represents the language of returning to nature, where the harmony of the natural world inspires a deeper connection to the environment and a simpler way of living. Yi (city), is the framework that guides design practice, providing the structure within which creativity thrives. However, design practice is not rigid, it is shaped by curves and demands, influenced by the evolving needs of both individuals and society. The true essence of design is to find a balance between the artificial and the natural, to use creativity to blend and return to nature in a way that enhances daily life.

Design Details
- Unique Properties
- To bring owner's family and friends to meet here from time to time, also stay for a few days, the design starts from the layout, to arrange the entryway, the spacious and comfortable feeling of the living room, the atmosphere of dining room, the multi-function bar and other functional fields. To adjust the two-bedroom layout to three bedrooms, so that the family and friends could stay comfortably in the vacation.
- Inspiration
- In everyone's heart, there is a port for freedom, just like ship enters port. The house is located in the bay area of Kaohsiung, with a panoramic view of the Kaohsiung Harbor. The decoration not only creates a high-level luxurious black tone and the basic life quality and functions, but also highlights the beautiful scenery of sea and sky outside the window. The detail of construction method matches this case very well, which is the focus of the design.
- Research
- To meet the accommodation needs of a family of four members, one bedroom is divided into two bedrooms to achieve the purpose of increasing a bedroom. However, the engineering method of using bricks to form the compartment is abandoned, but using the wardrobe as a room wall, which avoids adding a new wall to compress the bedroom area, and just like adding a sound insulation equipment because of the hanging clothes in the wardrobe, while providing storage spaces for two bedrooms, with better effect of blocking the sound transmission.
- Challenge
- The living room is designed with black tone and iron elements. Although it achieves the effect of hiding the roof beam and focusing the sight on the window scenery and furniture, it also creates a cool texture virtually. In order to avoid the space atmosphere is too hard and cold, the arc shape is appropriately added in the decoration, so as to play the role of softening the overall environment and adding a soft atmosphere.
- Realization and Technology
- The owners have considered the structural problems such as low beam lines and large beams and columns. Therefore, the practice of not capping the roof is adopted, and the top surface is decorated with grille and flat nail ceiling, which avoids further compression of the height of the house while beautifying. Moreover, it starts from the color, to use the black color with retraction function, and then installs a black mirror at the bottom of the beam.
- Operation and Interaction
- In addition to being a holiday home, there is also the need to entertain relatives and friends. Therefore, by observing the habits of male and female owners, it is found that they prefer to communicate with their friends in different places. The dining table and the bar are specially placed at both ends to create a living area layout of three reception spaces, including the sofa zone. The male host is used to gathering with relatives and friends in the dining place, while the hostess, who likes to make tea and cook light food to entertain friends, uses the bar as the main gathering place.
- Project Duration and Location
- The project took 7 months and was finished in May 2024 in Kaohsiung.
