Design Details

Unique Properties
By adopting a different approach from conventional literature collections, the "Nua Calendars" has been transformed into a pocket-sized edition. It utilizes off-white artistic paper and adopts the format of an old-fashioned calendar, presenting a unique texture reminiscent of that era. The intention is to accompany readers in their journey through past artistic eras. The book incorporates black and white historical photographs, yellowed documentary materials, and vibrant artistic works. This not only provides readers with a sense of historical immersion but also enriches their exposure to art.
Inspiration
Throughout its century-long history (1912-2023), Nanjing university of the art has upheld excellent cultural traditions and nurtured generations of outstanding artistic talents. The "Nua Calendars" primarily selects historical documents, works by teachers and students, and presents different perspectives to reflect the unique position and contributions of Nanjing university of the art in the history of modern and contemporary art education in china. As the centennial anniversary of the school approaches, it is hoped that this book will allow more students to gain a deeper understanding of the school's rich history.
Research
This book is based on the unique position of Nanjing university of the art (nua) in the history of chinese art education and cultural development. It aims to present a comprehensive overview of the school's history and the achievements of its teachers and students. It selects important historical documents, works by teachers and students, and utilizes various threads to highlight nua's role as a pioneer in higher art education in modern china. It showcases its significance as the birthplace of emerging arts in modern and contemporary china and its unique contributions to the cultural and artistic development of 20th-century china.
Challenge
The addition of the calendar functionality and the use of special printing techniques make this book appear more than just ordinary. It transforms the conventional characteristics of a literature collection, typically deemed as stiff and dull, into a book that can be used in everyday life. This greatly expands its range of applications and the likelihood of being utilized by readers.
Realization and Technology
This book is different from conventional literature collections as it incorporates the functionality of a calendar rather than simply showcasing documentary images. Its layout design not only takes inspiration from the style of old-fashioned calendars but also carefully aligns the historical significance of the images with the current date on the calendar. This allows readers, while flipping through the calendar, to gain insights into what significant events or completed works occurred on that specific day in history. By using the images as a visual reference, readers can deepen their understanding of the school's history.
Operation and Interaction
As a chinese art institution that has been established for over a century, the Nanjing university of the art holds significant social significance in terms of art inheritance and cultural output. Conducting a historical review by organizing significant documents and artworks from its developmental journey would be of extraordinary significance for this long-standing art school.
