Bronze A' Design Award in Furniture Design Goes to Aurora Bar Table by Haixu Zhang
The international grand jury of the 2023 - 2024 A' Design Award & Competition recognizes Haixu Zhang for furniture design

The recognition forms part of the 2023 - 2024 A' Design Award & Competition and was decided through blind peer review by an international grand jury panel of established academics, design professionals and press members, who assessed anonymized entries against predetermined criteria.

About Aurora Bar Table
Aurora is a bar table designed for home entertaining. The round tabletop is made of matte glass and is supported by metal legs. A hidden light strip runs around the inside of the tabletop and shines inward, creating a soft gradient glow. Three lighting modes are offered: a constant colourful light, a breathing light and a flash mode. The modes are selected with a touch switch or a remote control. The tabletop has a waterproof structure that protects it from spilled drinks. Aurora measures 600 mm in width, 600 mm in depth and 1050 mm in height.

- Inspiration
- Liberating people's spirits in the post epidemic era. More and more people are focusing on improving the quality of life, with an overflowing desire to share. Therefore, furniture like Aurora, which is colourful and shows the vitality of life, comes into being. It can be a decoration of home, a business card to show aesthetics, but also can become a bridge of communication between friends, leading us to rethink the way people communicate with others and with themselves in the post epidemic era.
- Research
- As life returned to normal after the COVID-19, the desire to socialise became stronger and Home Parties became popular. It's a place where people can communicate their feelings and share their joys. Creating a perfect "party" interactive space, comfortable atmosphere are essential elements. Aurora has three lighting modes to meet the needs of different scenarios, such a small gathering of friends, or a large-scale Home Party can meet.
- Challenge
- The biggest challenge in the design process is the hidden design of the light strip and the choice of the glass countertop material. The hidden light strip design makes the product more exquisite, with the matte glass adds haze and mystery to the product. I hope this product can bring users a pleasant experience.
- Realization and Technology
- Aurora uses round table surface and legs, which is friendly and natural.There is a circle of light strips around the inside of the disc. When the lights are turned on, the light shines inward. It is equipped with foggy glass, which is hazy and mysterious.Touch switch and remote control can be operated to control three lighting modes, both convenient and quick.
- Operation and Interaction
- The Aurora bar table uses three light modes to create an entertainment atmosphere exclusive to users through a simple button: the colorful constant light mode is a fashionable decoration of daily life, the breathing light mode is a quiet companion for alone time, and the flash mode is an exciting booster for a multi-party gathering. The illuminated matte glass adds a touch of haziness and mystery to wine sets, while waterproof structure of the tabletop prevents spilling drinks during parties.
