Regarding Clip Lounge Chair
Clip is a lounge chair designed for both outdoor and indoor spaces. The form of Clip takes inspiration from a paper clip, giving the chair a light and playful appearance. The clip-shaped steel frame flexes in response to the weight of the user, improving sitting comfort. A curved metal rod at the seat forms a loop that can hold small items. The chair is made of steel through bending, welding, sandblasting and powder coating. The use of a single material keeps production simple and supports recycling.

- The chair features a unique clip-like structure that dynamically adjusts to the user's weight, resulting in an enhanced sitting experience. The seat's curved metal rod cleverly forms a loop, offering a handy storage option for small items.
- Inspiration
- The Clip Chair is a versatile seating option that seamlessly transitions from outdoor to indoor environments. The design of this chair bears a resemblance to a paper clip, lending it a playful and whimsical aesthetic.
- Research
- During the design process, a key consideration for me was how to make furniture more playful. Taking inspiration from the shapes of traditional outdoor chairs and everyday objects found in daily life, I created a form that strikes a balance between elegance and whimsy. The resulting design appears refined and delicate, yet also playful and lighthearted.
- Challenge
- When creating the final prototype, it proved challenging to accurately determine the twisting angle and length of the steel rods for the backrest and seat portion. The calculations did not match the computer simulation precisely, making adjustments a significant obstacle to overcome.
- Realization and Technology
- Material: Steel. This design's production process involves four steps: bending metal pipes, welding, sandblasting, and powder coating. Despite its simplicity, these steps yield a visually striking piece of furniture that boasts both an artistic appearance and a relatively low production cost and difficulty. Also, the recycling process is significantly simplified, with only one material used throughout the chair's design.
