More About The Labyrinth Collection Maze Area Rugs

Maze is a hand-tufted area rug from the Labyrinth Collection, inspired by traditional hedge mazes. The rug is made of wool and sustainable bamboo silk. A raised pattern recalls the hedge walls of a garden maze, and the asymmetrical path can be traced with bare feet. The bamboo silk gives a slight sheen that changes tone under different lighting. Five standard colorways refer to natural elements, including a green named Boxwood. Standard sizes range from 60 by 90 centimeters to 240 by 300 centimeters, and custom sizes are available. The design suits living rooms, studies and bedrooms.

Design Details

Unique Properties
The Labyrinth Collection area rugs brings the mythical tradition of mazes to a luxury, decorative design element. The hand-tufted rugs translate the traditional hedge maze into a soft, patterned rug with a raised pattern that mimics the hedge walls. Their asymmetrical patterns preserve the maze designs in a way that makes it possible to trace with your feet as you walk across this unique rug, and the five standard colorways are inspired by timeless natural elements, including "Boxwood" green.
Inspiration
Inspired by an aerial photograph of the boxwood gardens at Chateau de Villandry in Loire Valley, France, I studied hedge formations around the world and was struck by the labyrinth tradition of hedge mazes that can be traced back through religious traditions and myths in many countries. The names of each rug references my research and points to a historic maze or significant place from which these designs originate, including the "Lucca" labyrinth in the Cathedral of San Maritino in Italy.
Realization and Technology
These rugs are hand-tufted with wool and sustainable bamboo silk by my rug production team in India.
Operation and Interaction
These rugs are designed to be used in intimate rooms such as the living room, study, or bedroom, and are meant to be experienced with bare feet. The bamboo silk pattern has a slight sheen that produces variations in tone under different lighting conditions. The design recalls meditation labyrinths and are designed to bring a sense of peace, and a centering element to the room.
Specifications
Standard sizes include: 60 cm x 90 cm, 120 cm x 180 cm, 180 cm x 270 cm, 240 cm x 300 cm. Custom sizing is available upon request.
