About Elegant Symmetry Residential House

Elegant Symmetry is a residential interior design for a house in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The original layout of the house was preserved. The first floor holds an open area used as both a living room and a dining room. Silver marbled tiles extend from the floor to one wall, while the opposite main wall shows metallic warm grey and golden lines. A sliding door with a black wooden grille blocks kitchen fumes and still lets light pass. The master bedroom is combined with a study that has a dark wooden desk and large wall cabinets.

About Li Hut Chin

As a construction professional, there are many remote villages located in the mountains. Because of the inconvenience of transportation, the development of them lags far behind flat villages or cities. This situation has attracted the attention of many NGOs. And I came to help because it sent volunteer teachers. Because the teachers were too remote and could not stay for long, they would need space to assist, but they could not be fixed on the ground like in the past, because the research-type house is very fast. It will be abolished because of the shrinkage of the village, and therefore a mobile "lattice children's garden" system has been developed.

Award Record

Li Hut Chin is a winner of 2 A' Design Awards, including this recognition. The awards were granted in the 2021 - 2022 edition of the A' Design Award & Competition.

Design Details

Unique Properties
Beyond the entrance foyer is an open area that functions both as a living room and a dining room. The design of the silver-marbled, segment-patterned flooring tiles extend to the walls. One wall is constructed with the same material as the flooring tiles, whereas the opposite side, being the main wall, has metallic warm grey and golden lines that elegantly compose an alternative visual focus on the canvas of white space.
Inspiration
Tailored to the owner's preferences and needs and combined with the designer's specialized aesthetics, this project is a masterpiece beyond compare. While preserving the abode's original layout, the first floor, as the main public area of the house, utilizes corresponding design elements to exhibit the concept of symmetry and weave tranquility through the atmosphere. As visitors step into the space, white marble walls and black built-in cabinets greet them. The combination of coordinated soft furnishings create an end view with a symmetrical visual effect.

Challenge
The sliding door, with a pattern imitating a famous painting by Klimt, cleverly hides the bathrooms while simultaneously balancing practicality and aesthetic. The lively garage is decorated with colorful and childlike artworks by the famous illustrator Jimmy.
Realization and Technology
The private bedrooms are located on the second to fourth floors. The master bedroom on the second floor is the hostess’ main living area. In response to the owner's request of online video to contact the office after returning home, the bedroom and the study are specially integrated. The dark wooden desk and large wall cabinets create a spatial atmosphere akin to a coffee shop or a retro bar, where people can relieve stress after work by sipping their favorite beverages.
Operation and Interaction
The dining area is located in the second half of the open space, continuing the tranquil feelings created by the marble flooring and the main wall. The upper ceiling with the circular lamps and the fillets have edges and corners that add a smooth touch to the space. The sliding door made with a large black wooden grille behind the dining area not only blocks fumes from the kitchen while preparing food, but also maintains a partial transparency of the kitchen, all the while allowing light and communication to pass through in a timely manner.
