Regarding Cinque Sofa

An original interlocking system allows the sofa to be assembled and disassembled by hand, as often as needed, without tools. The structure is made of birch plywood coupled with Fenix and shaped by numerical control machining. The cushions are covered in eco-leather or natural handmade fabrics. Design Details

Unique Properties
A minimal sofa that is easy to assemble without the use of screws or nails. Original interlocking assembly system that allows you to assemble and disassemble a 3 seater sofa whenever you need it.
Inspiration
In my removals, the sofa was the most difficult and complex piece of furniture to move. Remembering the Legos I had as a child, I wanted to make this object light, removable and not bulky.
Research
The aim of the project is to create a sofa that can be disassembled and reassembled without the aid of tools and hardware, eliminating the plastic in the packaging and that is recyclable. The Cinque sofa is available in both indoor and outdoor versions where it finds its maximum functionality: when in the winter the sofa has no reason to be used outdoors, it can easily be disassembled and put away, taking up minimal space.
Challenge
In addition to the conception of the interlocking system, the concept of Cinque is to demonstrate that it is possible to reduce the use of plastic and hardware for the creation of large-volume furniture.
Realization and Technology
Birch plywood coupled with Fenix. Numerical control processing of the structure. Cushions in eco-leather and / or natural handmade fabrics.
Operation and Interaction
The sofa, static and bulky furniture, becomes transportable. It can be disassembled and reassembled as often as desired without the need for tools.
Project Duration and Location
The initial project was born in 2013 for a design competition. Exhibited at the Fuori Salone del Mobile in Milan in the same year and at the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna on the occasion of the Design Week. It was reborn in 2021 in collaboration with a local carpentry.
Specifications
Sofa dimensions: 205x88x73 cm. Sofa disassembled dimensions: 205x88x10 cm.
Keywords
sofa, minimal, furniture, divano, plywood, eco
