About The Lakeshore Hualien Tranquil Hotel
The Lakeshore Hualien Tranquil is a hotel located in Hualien City, Taiwan. The design draws on the local mountains and the Pacific Ocean, and on the painting The Beauty of Taroko by Ma Paisui. Mountain ridges become pentagonal geometry in the beams and columns of the first floor, while triangles appear on the corridor and ceiling. Undulating lines on the facade suggest sea waves. A wooden grille and light transparent glass bring in daylight and outdoor views. Upper floors are set back to create terraces, improve ventilation and reduce shading of neighboring buildings.

Furthermore, the undulating sea waves on the exterior walls of the building, bring the natural appearance of Hualien to the visitors provides a comfortable and convenient resting place.
- Inspiration
- The Lakeshore Hotel Hualien is located on the vast coastline of the Eastern Pacific Ocean and the luxuriant mountains that stretch for miles. - Challenge
- According to the statistics, more than 90% of people die during earthquakes because of building collapse. By this tragedy, once again awakening people's awareness of earthquake crisis prevention. Thus, in order to meet the goals of seismic design regulations and to protect the safety of the tourists, the geological characteristics and seismic zone coefficients of the site were taken into the consideration since the beginning of the construction planning of the Lakeshore Hotel Hualien.
- Realization and Technology
- The exterior of the first floor is designed with the concept of the undulating ridge of the mountains. The beams and columns are shaped to form a pentagonal geometry, and a wooden grille is used on the upper part to bring a transparency and penetration feeling. Besides the triangular shape, the building facade is also designed with the natural impression of the sea's waves, and the light-weight transparent glass brings in the outdoor scenery, enabling the building to penetrate and introduce the outdoor natural environment.
- Operation and Interaction
- The Lakeshore Hotel Hualien not only architecturally embraces the magnificent natural scenery of clouds, mountains, forests, and the sea of Eastern Taiwan, but is also located on the side of the Taiwan Provincial Highway 9 which provides direct access to the international airport, train stations, international seaports and other important scenic spots in Hualien. The hotel also looks out over the clear blue ocean to the east and the verdant mountains to the west, providing a comfortable travel experience for visitors with an open.
- Project Duration and Location
