About Shang He Gallery Multifunctional Sales Centre
Shang He Gallery is a multifunctional sales centre located in Kaifeng, Henan Province, China. The interior covers 1050 square metres on two floors. The ground floor holds the entrance, reception, display and negotiation areas. The second floor serves as an art space, with a hall used for exhibitions, meetings and lectures. A metal carving based on the painting Qingming Shanghe Tu, interpreted through local paper-cut skills and Chinese red, forms the central feature. Customized corrugated marble, stone, steel and art glass complete the interior.

- Unique Properties
- Shang He Galley is a multi functional sales center tailored for Landsea Kaifeng Bianjing Xihuafu project by XY + Z. In addition to XY + Z's consistent green and humanistic design concept, the designer unfold Bianjing's amazing prosperity described in the masterpiece “Qingming Shanghe Tu ”（ Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival) in an artistic way that makes the world marvel again.
- Inspiration
- The design of Shang He Gallery organically integrates the local history and culture with the humanistic, sunshine, green and high-tech concepts of Landsea. The architectural, furniture, decoration, calligraphy and painting, folk skills and other elements of the Bianjing city reunion in the space, become the new interpretation of Kaifeng’s memory. Kaifeng, known as Bianjing in ancient times, is known as the ancient capital of eight dynasties in the Chinese history. It has bred a far-reaching "Song culture" that inherits from the Han and Tang Dynasties and influenced the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The great Song Dynasty is the most brilliant era in Kaifeng’s history and Chinese feudal history.
- Research
- Researches were mainly focused on the understanding of the site, especially the historical and cultural features of the city Kaifeng, which gave us the inspiration of using the master piece ” “Qingming Shanghe Tu “.
- Challenge
- Ground floor planning mainly meets the commercial functions of the sales office, and the consumer journey: the entrance, reception, display, early and further negotiation, sales control and other areas is reasonably planned. The second floor is more as an art space. The top design conforms to the original herringbone structure of the building, and the Oriental wisdom of the unity of heaven and man is hidden in the processing method of following the trend. In addition to daily art display; it can also be used to hold special exhibitions. The multi-functional hall on the same floor can be used as a meeting room and a lecture hall for traditional Chinese culture.
- Realization and Technology
- The project used the corrugated marble, metal carve and mold, which are all customized. It requires strictly controlled modeling, and the relatively longer production, however the effect well worth the effort. The modeling came out exactly the same as the masterpiece “Qingming Shanghe Tu ” ， perfectly realizing the artistic and unique expression as expectd.

- The project is conducted under close coordination among the design team, the client and the constructor.
