Design Details

Unique Properties
One of the last architectural & interior design projects Karl Lagerfeld collaborated on, the condominium suite was designed as an exemplary of the company offerings. A combination of a quiet, contemplative, high-end gallery and living space, this luxurious demo apartment offers clients glimpses of the potential comforts of their own home with splashes of both subdued and exciting style overlooking the city.
Inspiration
This demo apartment has been designed in the spirit of Karl Lagerfeld and his long relationship with Chanel. The demo flat was realized with guests and potential buyers in mind, with the approval of Karl Lagerfeld design team with touches as an expression of highend fashion. Primarily a residential space, the designers explore the potential of a multifunction space designed around and inspired by Chanel couture.
Research
The Karl Lagerfeld designed stainless steel tiles that compose the main floor space in the demo space were realized through commissioning an aluminum finishing factory for their production at a cost of over USD 30,000. Following strict requirements, the finished 1m2 tiles are scratch resistant, and dissipate heat easily allowing them to maintain consistent shape throughout thermal fluctuation.
Challenge
In working out this demo apartment, the main challenge was arranging the layout to achieve the open floor plan within an office building, while avoiding the main building support columns. Another challenge was to present the space as an upper floor design, while in actuality being located on a lower floor of the building. The effect was accomplished through light colored cloth window dressings and blinds obscuring the view while allowing natural light through.
Realization and Technology
Imported European highend fixtures, one of a kind Cappellini PROUST hand painted love seat sofa chair, a Teckell crystal pool table, and sculptures, featuring a Karl Lagerfeld design inspired aluminum tile floor. A 12 seat circular dining table is illuminated by the Mooi Heracleum. Moooi Heraceleum, the Big O copper suspended branching blossom light, and Hung YiChun striking red acrylic on fiberglass artwork mounted behind. The master features a walkin with museum quality glassed in humidity controlled wardrobes.
Operation and Interaction
After entering through the vestibule, the apartment opens into a massive open space design with the pool table serving as a divider between the living room to the right with seating centered on a large circular floral hand-woven rug, while to the left the dining area shimmers under the stunning lighting. The glean of the aluminum flooring casting reflections and shadows in a chiaroscuro play with the light like a summer sun dancing under a tree.
Project Duration and Location
Finished in January 2020 in Taichung, Taiwan.
Specifications
The total area of the model condominium comprises 260m2 with three bedrooms, including two masters, a living room, a kitchen, dining room, bar, wrap around balcony, and a servant quarters.
