Interview with Punkt Widzenia

Point of View is a small graphic design studio set up in 2010 in Łódź (Poland) and run by a married couple, Marta and Michał Siciński.

Designer of the Day Interview

17 March 2018

Punkt Widzenia (Point of View) is a small studio based in Lodz/Poland. It was established in 2010 out of the desire to show the world from our own point of view and present our approach to graphic design. Most of our works are related to the broadly understood culture.

It's something what I really wanted to do from the beginning.I wanted to make things which I want to see around me and which I want to have and use.

Actually computer is my main tool. I use Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Sometimes I sketch when I'm working on concept and I make a paper mockup.

All of the positive ones. I always wanted to do this so I'm glad that I can.

Ability to perceive things from new, different sides.

I don't have any special plans. I want to make some good project.

They should have ability to persuade people should be stubborn and patient. It always takes some time to find your own way. If they pay a lot of attention to each smallest part of their work, it is very likely that they will succeed.

Pay a lot of attention to details. Each project consists a lot of details. Work on your own style and portfolio. Show what you like doing and what you are good at.

Most of a day I spend in a studio. Usually it is 9am to 6-7pm, sometimes with break for a meeting, lunch or coffee with friends.

I draw inspiration from everything I see, hear or feel. There's a lot from history, modernism, culture in the wider sense. I try to work on my own style. I think that good design sets the trends.

It is useful and nice

I just feel it

It's not the bigest but most satisfying. Visual identification for the performance “Oh My Sweet European Home” with the music of Krzysztof Komeda (2014). We designed posters, invitations, a publication describing background of the music, the stage design. It was really complete work.

There are many of them but now I think about Bruno Monguzzi and Le Corbusier

I live In Lodz (Poland). Cultural heritage of Poland is really wide and Lodz is special in this.

I don't have any special business philosophy. I approach with commitment to each design but I refuse jobs that are not in accordance with my conscience

Sometimes we make pro bono design but it has to be important and social involved work.

Satisfaction

Design Legend Interview

26 April 2017

I had to start work early I had 18-19 years old. I was very lucky. I started work with pretty cool advertising agency.

It's something what I really wanted to do from the beginning.
I wanted to make things which I want to see around me and which I want to have and use.

It was definitely my choice.

Simple and legible visual identification for companies, events, covers, publications and packaging.

They should have ability to persuade people should be stubborn and patient. It always takes some time to find your own way. If they pay a lot of attention to each smallest part of their work, it is very likely that they will succeed.

Some luck and few great designs on account.

Details and attention pay to them

Good design is always underestimated : )

Probably I would do more designs for musicians.

Each new project is a challenge. I’m waiting for big one : )

If designer pay a lot of attention to each smollest part of his work, it is very likely that he will succee.

There is a lot of my favourite designers. Now I think about Le Corbusier

There are a lot of them

I think it's visual identification for the performance “Oh My Sweet European Home” with the music of Krzysztof Komeda (2014). We designed posters, invitations, a publication describing background of the music, the stage design. It was really complete work that’s why a like it

Work and gaining experience. Searching new possibilities and learning. It always improve our works.

Probably I had to become a musician.

I think it's a big part of our life. Not everyone can see it but everyone is using it.

My wife. She always supported me.

I don’t think I’m great : ) I think about myself as a craftsman.

Obstacles are part of designing process. They never ends : )

I think they shouldn’t use mockups or visualizations to present their realizations. It’s good in concept part of work. It’s very rare that they show that they really are. I think designers should use good photos and presents their designs on exhibitions.

Actually we are working on few projects for different industries and we will show them soon : )

Perfection. But it's rather unattainable.

Goog designs : )

I think that design is not art. Good design help people in ordinary life.

As I said we work on few projects. One of them is related with music. I hope it will be good job.

I think it's visual identification for the performance “Oh My Sweet European Home” with the music of Krzysztof Komeda (2014). We designed posters, invitations, a publication describing background of the music, the stage design. It was really complete work and made me very happy.

More well thought out designs.

I think there will be more motion, responsive and interactive design around us.

Sometimes it takes a few days and sometimes months It depends on complexity of the project and customers requirements.

In the head. I think more about project, about any characteristic features, about what we can use, I gather associations and turn them into a concept.

You should be thinking

Good design sets the trends and another follow them.

Very big. Currently all my designs are formed in computers

Actually computer is my main tool. I use Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Sometimes I sketch when I'm working on concept and I make a paper mockup.

It’s depends on project of course. Some of them needs colours and some doesn’t. Some of them needs textures and some of them are watching on screens. It's very wide question. But everything matter.
Our designs represent a simple form without unnecessary ornaments, they have moderate colours and diverse textures.

hmm… I don’t know but I will gladly answer every question

Why not me!!!!!! : ) and really I think “good job!!!”

Yes definitely. There are no people knowing everything. Someone are good at graphic design, someone in motion design and another are great architectures. If you want be good designer you should have learned working with them.

I can’t pointed specific people. I think it was team with which I have been working on Polish Fashion Week.

"Whatevere you think, think the opposite" - Paul Arden.

I don’t think I’m master. I still learn. I read, watch, hear, talk with people. Their thoughts can be very inspiring. I’m always looking for answers.

Le Corbusier

I don’t know how it is to be famous. At this moment I’m happy.

Color - Black/White. Place - Edge. Season - Present. Thing - That. Brand - Old

I don’t know it’s funny but… Someday we are working on packaging of pepper and client told us to make photos of allspice on front because it looks more like pepper then pepper.

Each day when we are working on something interesting is great. I try to think every project is interesting. Sometimes it's pretty hard : )

I always wanted to make something great... and I still dreaming about it.

I'm curious what will be tomorrow.

I think that's all : )

Designer Interview

26 April 2017

It's something what I really wanted to do from the beginning.

Punkt Widzenia (Point of View) is a small studio based in Lodz/Poland. It was established out of the desire to show the world from our own point of view and present our approach to graphic design. We are focusing on creating simple and legible visual identification for small companies as well as for large enterprises, for publications and packaging.

I think it's a big part of our life. Not everyone can see it but everyone is using it.

I like simple and legible visual identification for companies, events, covers, publications and packaging

If you meaning our work I think it's visual identification for the performance “Oh My Sweet European Home” with the music of Krzysztof Komeda (2014). We designed posters, invitations, a publication describing background of the music, the stage design. It was really complete work, but if you mean my favourite design (not made by our studio) There are a lot of them : )

Most of my first jobs were focused on clothing brands, I made mostly labels for them.

Of course paper. I like to use many others and combine different materials but paper is my favourite.

Most creative is time when I'm working on a concept and I'm not limited by customer directions.
But sometimes this limitation can be very useful and inspiring too.

It depends on the client. Sometimes we can focus on concept and sometimes we have to focus on production technique and finding the way to bring idea to life.

All of the positive ones. I always wanted to do this so I'm glad that I can.

It depends on project, mostly proud but sometimes... You know what I mean.

If designer pay a lot of attention to each smallest part of his work, it is very likely that he will succeed.

Do I like it?

Each time we are working on project we are thinking a lot how it affects the society and environment.
Of course not always It's necessary.

It’s evolving on it’s own way. I think there will be more motion, responsive and interactive design around us

Last exhibition took place in Wroclaw (Poland) in BWA in January 2017. It was joint exhibition presented best polish printed materials organized by PrintControl. You could see there our poster and book. Abd next? You will be able to see our packages on A’Design Awards exhibition : )

I draw inspiration from everything I see, hear or feel. There's a lot from history, modernism, culture in the wider sense. There is a magic inspiration called good wine : )

Our approach to each project is, above all, analytical. We think about any characteristic features, about what we can use, we gather associations and turn them into a project, removing any unnecessary and redundant elements on the way. We like simple and obvious designs, but also those that require some deeper thought - and win the audience’s understanding only after a while, not always at first glance

I live In Lodz (Poland). Cultural heritage of Poland is really wide and Lodz is special in this. It's very special place for me
but our works are rarely related to heritage of Lodz and Poland.

Usually, after valuation of our work we talk about the project, expectations, limitations, budget and we are preparing
first concepts. After consultations with client, we use to add all the required changes on a one of our concepts and then we preparing materials for production. It looks like simple and fast process but usually it takes a lot of time.

Companies should focus on looking for good portfolio. Not always famous names and awards are useful. They should have an opportunity to watch projects live or at least good photos of them. Not mockups or visualizations which are good for concept part of work and they don't show the final result

First of all we talk with our customers. It took some times but is very useful. After that we are creating first concepts and collecting any associations. During design process we choose which idea will be the most suitable. Then we present concepts to the customer. After consultations we refine one of ou concepts and then we are preparing materials for production.

Book. Table. Chairs. Corkscrew. Packages

Most of a day I spend in a studio. Usually it is 9am to 6-7pm, sometimes with break for a meeting, lunch or coffee with friends. After work if the weather is good I like to go for ride on my bike or take a walk home. Then like everyone, there is a : dinner, book, movie, pool, wine, beer, friends. Everything what my wife and I currently wants : )

Pay a lot of attention to details. Each project consists a lot of details.
Work on your own style and portfolio. Show what you like doing and what you are good at.

I do what I like so I see only positives : ) You can create.

You should be thinking.

Creativity. Ability to look at different sides of design. Open minded.

Actually computer is my main tool. I use Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Sometimes I sketch when I'm working on concept and I make a paper mockup. We draw inspiration from everything we see, hear or feel. There's a lot from history, modernism, culture in the wider sense.

This is my weak side I try not to work more then 8 hours per day and do not work at home, but when I have interesting work to do all above rules are gone.

Sometimes it takes a few days and sometimes months It depends on complexity of the project and customers requirements.

How much it cost and why it’s so much : )

I think working on events was the most important experience. It learned me how to work with big teams.

Small companies as well as large enterprises, events organizators. But I like to work with small ones, usually they are more flexible.

Complete visual identifications from logo to package layouts. This gives me control over all visual aspect of work.

We want to make some good project.

As a team with my wife Marta and sometimes we are cooperating with other designers.

Actually we are working on few projects for different industries and we certainly will show them soon : )
