Interview with Polona Pakiz
Design Legend Interview
23 October 2016
I've always love nice things, smooth lines, minimalism, nature, animals, and always wanted things with purpose. So after my degree in economics, I’ve started working in building company, where I was daily meeting architect, clients, builders and noticed, that the clients are a little confused in knowing what they want, architect were mainly focused on looks of the building not so much practical view of living in this building….so I realized I would like to study Faculty of Design so I could help my clients. During my studies I started to uncover my design potentials and my love for designing.
I love to give objects a meaning, good looks, I love to give my clients beautiful a practical interior and designs.
I think that forcing someone in anything is stupid, and yes of course I’ve choose to become a designer. And I’m happy for my choice.
I design all sorts of stuff, mainly business design, so I helped many clients with their start-ups, or refreshed business, and if there is any time left I design accessories for kids and pets.
Should design from the heart.
For me, great designer is someone who stays true to himself/herself.
Good design is hart to evaluated, maybe the design is too far in the future, or too simple, but is still a good design.
To deliver a good design is a hard process, takes time, energy, lot of sleepless nights, emotional ups and downs, so it’s hard to value all this energy which was invested in any design.
Uf, I have a lot of my design sketches in my table draw, but if I had a magic stick and time travel machine I would love to spend some time with my best designer and architect Zaha Hadid.
My dream project is making an Eco friendly, self-sufficient town, with wooden houses, green streets, kid friendly schools and Ayurveda hospital.
Do from your heart, go with the flow and work hard.
Every design with large contribution to nature, animal protection or fair trade community/corporation.
If your design is not a success, don’t worry, put it on aside, wait, maybe you’ll find modifications, or just needs time.
Design is way of living, effective struggling everyday problems is a good design. You design the way of living every day, how you’ll clear your desk, tidy your room, organize a trip, all this is design
My biggest supporters are me, myself and I. Be true to yourself any time.
I have a long way ahead to become a great designer, small and steady steps.
Lack of self-confidence, short in time and money, lack of courage, but need to take small steps and slowly you’ll make your progress and success.
With passion.
Still secret…..something for kids.
Stay true to yourself.
Assured, know your business, believe in your product, and trust your instinct.
Designing is always exciting process.
All designs are like my kids. It’s impossible to answer a question which one of your kids you prefer, which one you love more.
More trust us, the designers. I still see a lot of corporations, clients who doesn’t appreciate our work and still want to save money on designs.
Really depends on a size of a project.
First you need to know your customer in details, what they want, love, need, expect…
Be positive.
I’m sure that good design sets the trend.
Pencil and sketchbook, Adobe Collection, 3ds Max, AutoCad, Sketchup, …
Using harmonious (analogous) color combinations with one or two intensive complementary colors or materials.
Where can I buy/order it?
Uf, I would like to have this at home.
If your co-worker is stimulating and motivational for you and your design, than co-design is a must
My son, my colleague, my pets.
Mostly designers are born with the skills they own.
Zaha Hadid.
No, it’s not hard, it’s responsible.
My favorite color is blue with all it shades. Paris is my favorite place. I love sea food. My best season is spring and autumn. The best thing is morning coffee. I love Ikea.
The funniest thing about my design of pet bed, when I was at design fair, all kids love this bed, and wanted it for themselves.
Every day is a good day, because every day you learn something new and decide something odd so I enjoy every single day
Yes, because I’ve always re-design all my toys or my clothes.
Designer Interview
3 May 2012
I always wanted to be an architect. But my career lead me first to economy, next to the building trade and finally to a design school, where I became a graduated interior designer.
I’m at the beginning of my designing studio. I would like to design similar products, for example: for animals, children or accessories for homes. Beside that i would like to work as an interior designer or as an architect for interiors. I like colours, vintage, softness, homeliness, practicality, this is my style.
Design is my life. I live to design and design is for my living. Design is when you can make better living, when you can invent lovely and practical things, when you think about better future.
I like designing practical accessories for different usages or users. I love working with wood and different textures and colours.
My first project was in a design school. I designed a folding-constructing screen for children, which grows with a child and stimulates him growth and development. You can add or change different cardboard panels where there is an an alphabet, or firs words, colours, shapes or where they can learning foreign languages. You can also add a panel for playing theatre. Or choose nice coloured glass panels for normal use of folding screen
My favourite material is wood.
My favourite platform autoCad and 3ds max.
My favourite technology laser cut.

Outside in the nature, at night in my bed, while reading a book or drinking coffee. Practically all the time, thinking, designing, creating something new or re-designing.
I’m focused on details, the usage of materials, and application of different colours.
Happiness, impatience, anxious, satisfaction.
Ravishment, happiness, satisfaction.
When people accept it well. If they saw in it a satisfaction of their needs.
First I see good qualities; I examine usage of materials and colours, a practicality of design. And also inspect a faultiness or defectiveness of a design. I respect a work of a designer, and I always try to understand his meaning of a design.
All designers should have a great responsibility for environment. They all should think in a principle: from cradle to cradle.
Yes, the design field is evolving. Maybe in Slovenia, a little slower than it should. Where the big corporations still doesn’t understand the meaning of a great design, and how it’s worth.
The future of designing is re-design, design with a few or nothing influence to environment.
Also today’s designing is not just to design a chair or accessories, but to design a service, whole concept of service, for example in a bank or insurance company.

My last exhibition was in 2010 at furniture fair Ambient in Ljubljana. My greatest wish is to exhibit on a design fair in London or Milano.
My inspirations come from nature, surroundings, when I observe the patterns in nature. Also my inspirations come from the past, from our history. My dreams are sources of inspirations.
My design is colourful and minimalist. Love colours and wood textures, and patterns.
I live in countryside. I love rural simple life, I adore simple antiques.
Slovenia is too much closed for design and creation. We are still learning that design is something good that helps us at evolution, growth. Still not enough interest in a design and designing.

Some companies are still afraid of designers. They think the designers are artist’s dreamers. You need to make an effort to find a company who understand the necessity of a design and see the future in it.
Good designer is looking far in the future. Good designer is not seeking the obstacles, he sees goals and salvations. Good designer can design not just an object he can design a whole service for a company. A good designer has a good concept, besides thinking about the production and a good income for company, he can think about the users, about the environment...
My designing process is different from a project to a project. Mainly when I have an idea I’m developing it in my mind for few days. Then when an idea is enough developed I made a sketch, than a concept, with help of a different computer programs.
You can be creative; can play with materials and textures, improving interiors, bettering our lives. You can be productive; people need design, need changes and improvements. The only negative thing is that most people don’t appreciate design. It’s hard to find people or company who understand that behind a good design is a lot of thinking, hours, clicking, drawings, researches, compromises...
Follow your mission, your vision. Persist at your own design. And do not despair with obstacles you come across. Tomorrow is another day.
Openness, accept a criticism, vision, courage, fortitude, will, diligence....
Pencil 2B and 4B, paper, AutoCad, ArchiCad, 3DS Max Design, Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.. books for soul, nature, people, cities....
Depends on a project, takes from 3 to 7 months.
Designing for kids, because they are open, the best judges and the most genuine design lovers.
I’m trying to carry trough the realization of my awarded design to put it on market. And design more furniture for cats. Finished a folding-constructing screen for children which I’m designing. And of course advantage the golden award as much as possible.
