The spirit that a designer like Musa Temel should have should include creativity, sophistication, and human-oriented thinking.

Designer of the Day Interview

12 May 2026

Tasarım yolculuğum, hayal gücünü işlevsellikle birleştirme tutkusuyla başladı. Mimarlık ve iç mekân tasarımına duyduğum ilgi, yalnızca estetik değil, aynı zamanda insanların yaşam alanlarıyla kurduğu ilişkiyi dönüştürme arzusuyla şekillendi.

Tasarımcı olma yolculuğum, çocukluk yıllarında mekânlara olan merakımla başladı. Gördüğüm her yapının içinde kendimce değişiklikler yapar, evleri kafamda yeniden kurgulardım.

Tasarım trendlerinin önemi ise;

5. İlham Kaynağı: Diğer katılımcıların yenilikçi ve yaratıcı işleri, kendi tasarım yaklaşımımı zenginleştirdi ve yeniliklere açık olmamı sağladı.

Design Legend Interview

12 May 2026

I hold a formal education and practical experience in 3D and technical design, specializing in digital modeling, prototyping, and detailed technical workflows across diverse project scales.

The ability to positively impact people's lives through spatial experiences has always motivated me. Design gives meaning to function and beauty to purpose.

I chose this profession with full intent. My inclination toward form, materiality, and human behavior naturally directed me into design.

I mainly design residential and commercial spaces, but I aspire to focus more on public and cultural projects that engage with community and context.

They should cultivate curiosity, embrace discipline, and learn from real-world experience. Building a critical eye and maintaining authenticity are essential.

A good designer solves problems; a great designer redefines them, elevating the discourse of design through originality and depth.

A truly good design balances function, aesthetics, context, and emotion. It speaks clearly and remains relevant over time.

Good design enhances daily life, adds economic and emotional value, and ensures sustainability. It is an investment in long-term quality.

I would design an open-access learning and innovation hub, especially for youth and communities with limited resources.

A multidisciplinary design campus that fosters collaboration between architecture, art, and technology remains a dream project for me.

My secret is relentless observation—seeing the unnoticed, questioning the accepted, and constantly refining with purpose and clarity.

Designers such as Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid, and Carlo Scarpa have deeply influenced my perception of form, silence, and material integrity.

Dieter Rams’s minimalist philosophy and Renzo Piano’s sensitivity to light and place are exemplary to me.

The “Mountain Winter House” is my signature work—conceived entirely from imagination, every detail crafted to harmonize nature and shelter.

Continuous exploration, reading, travel, and hands-on building shaped my growth. Embracing failure as part of learning was crucial.

If not a designer, I would likely have pursued philosophy or anthropology—both explore the fundamentals of human thought and space.

Design, for me, is intentional creation. It is the discipline of shaping environments and objects with meaning, emotion, and ethics.

I have been fortunate to receive support from visionary clients, committed collaborators, and my family—each contributing uniquely to my path.

Patience, persistence, and the willingness to start over many times helped me reach maturity in my design thinking.

Access to resources, building trust, and breaking into established networks were initial challenges, especially while proposing unconventional ideas.

Designers should present their work through storytelling—context, process, and impact are as important as the final outcome.

I am currently developing a sustainable coastal retreat—entirely off-grid, integrating vernacular techniques with contemporary detailing.

My ultimate goal is to leave behind a design legacy that empowers others, nurtures learning, and creates meaningful environments.

People expect vision, consistency, and innovation. An esteemed designer must lead with humility while setting high standards.

Design helps create a better society by fostering inclusivity, improving well-being, and encouraging responsible use of resources.

I’m working on an intergenerational co-living project that reimagines urban housing models with shared, adaptable spaces.

Projects where I had full conceptual freedom and could personally oversee construction gave me the greatest satisfaction.

I hope the design industry embraces more ethical responsibility—less spectacle, more substance, and deeper ecological awareness.

Design is shifting toward circular thinking, regenerative materials, and artificial intelligence–augmented creativity.

Depending on scale, a project can take weeks to over a year. Concept development usually takes the most time due to its iterative nature.

I begin by understanding context: site, users, climate, and culture. Every design must be rooted in its surroundings.

"Design with intention, build with empathy." This motto guides both my creative process and professional conduct.

I believe strong design sets trends. Authentic, timeless ideas often become reference points long after they’re created.

Technology extends my capabilities but never replaces intuition. I use it as a medium, not a substitute for creativity.

I primarily work with software such as AutoCAD, Rhino, 3ds MAX, Lumion, and Adobe Suite, alongside hand sketches and physical models.

Color, materials, and atmosphere define spatial emotion. They create identity, rhythm, and connection between space and occupant.

I wish people asked more about the why—the intention, the story, the challenge—rather than just the visual outcome.

When I see great design, I wonder about the unseen layers: the brief, the struggle, the decision-making behind it.

An ideal partner is someone who challenges me intellectually, values collaboration, and brings complementary strengths. I believe in co-design deeply.

Skilled craftsmen, critical clients, and passionate students have all influenced my design evolution significantly.

Books such as Thinking Architecture by Zumthor and The Eyes of the Skin by Pallasmaa have deeply shaped my spatial philosophy.

Through repetition, refinement, and risk. I never stopped prototyping, sketching, writing, and observing human behavior.

I would like to meet Leonardo da Vinci—not just for his design genius, but his ability to think across disciplines and centuries.

Awards are humbling. Recognition brings visibility, but also responsibility—to innovate, mentor, and remain true to one's values.

Color: Charcoal grey.
Place: Remote mountains or coastal villages.
Food: Mediterranean cuisine.
Season: Autumn.
Thing: My sketchbooks.
Brand: Muji—for its honesty and restraint.

During a site visit, a client mistook one of my detailed concept models for a real miniature building and asked if we needed a zoning permit for it.

Seeing a concept come to life motivates me. A successful design day is when the idea finally “clicks” after days of iteration.

Yes. As a child, I constantly rearranged furniture, built things out of scraps, and drew buildings no one asked for.

In a thousand years, I believe we will design less for ego and more for survival—our tools may evolve, but purpose will remain human-centered.

I want people to know that design is a form of care. Every line I draw considers someone’s life, emotions, and future.

Designer Interview

12 May 2026

My background and experience in 3D and technical design encompass digital modeling, prototyping, and manufacturing processes. As a designer, I focus on integrating form and function within a three-dimensional space to develop innovative solutions. My interest in this field stems from a desire to explore the creative potential of technology, always aiming to be a designer who seamlessly blends technical precision with aesthetic value.

My design practice is structured under a multidisciplinary studio that focuses on architecture, interior design, and product development. We approach each project with contextual sensitivity, material integrity, and a strong narrative vision.

Design is the deliberate act of giving form to ideas that improve human experience. It is both functional and poetic—a bridge between necessity and imagination.

I particularly enjoy designing residential and retreat spaces in natural contexts. They allow for a deeper engagement with the landscape, materials, and emotional resonance of space.

My Mountain Winter House is my favorite project. It was developed from pure imagination, rooted in its environment, and realized with a meticulous attention to detail—merging architecture with atmosphere.

The first design I produced for a company was a custom-designed modular shelving system that was later integrated into multiple retail spaces. It was both functional and adaptable.

I have a deep appreciation for natural materials, especially wood and stone. In terms of platforms and technologies, I favor Rhino and Lumion for spatial modeling and visualization.

My creativity is most vivid in quiet, uninterrupted moments—often late at night or early in the morning—when ideas can flow without constraints.

I focus first on spatial flow, light behavior, and materiality. These three aspects define the core experience of a design for me.

While designing, I feel a sense of clarity, excitement, and responsibility. Each line carries intent; each decision shapes someone’s future environment.

When a design is realized, I experience a deep sense of fulfillment, especially when it resonates with users and stands harmoniously within its context.

A successful design is one that serves its users intuitively, endures over time, and contributes positively to its surroundings.

When evaluating a design, I first consider its purpose, material honesty, and spatial or visual coherence.

Designers hold a responsibility to create solutions that are environmentally sustainable, socially inclusive, and culturally respectful.

The design field is becoming increasingly interdisciplinary. I believe the future lies in collaborative, regenerative, and ethically driven design practices.

My most recent exhibition was part of an international design biennial. I plan to hold my next solo exhibition within the coming year, focusing on experimental spatial installations.

My inspiration comes from nature, literature, historical architecture, and human behavior. I nourish my creativity through travel, sketching, and continuous learning.

My design style is minimal, context-responsive, and deeply narrative. I was drawn to this style through an appreciation for quiet spaces that communicate through form, material, and proportion rather than ornament.

I live in Türkiye, where the cultural layering of East and West has profoundly influenced my sensibility. The richness of vernacular architecture and craftsmanship informs many of my projects.

I collaborate closely with companies, interpreting their goals through design solutions that align with their identity while offering innovation and long-term value.

I advise companies to seek designers who listen actively, present thoughtful processes, and demonstrate consistency. Trust and clarity are key to a successful partnership.

My process begins with research and immersion—understanding context, function, and user behavior—followed by conceptual exploration, modeling, detailing, and realization.

Among my favorite design objects at home are a hand-thrown ceramic tea set, a custom oak bench, a vintage Bauhaus lamp, a modular wall system, and a Japanese incense burner.

My day typically begins early with sketching or reading, followed by meetings, site visits, and design development. I close the day with reflection or creative writing.

I encourage young designers to stay curious, take initiative, and not fear critique. Authenticity, patience, and rigorous self-education are vital on this path.

The positive aspect is the ability to create lasting impact through meaningful work. The challenging side can be the emotional toll of perfectionism and navigating uncertain project environments.

My golden rule is: “Design with clarity, execute with care.” Every element should have reason and every decision must serve the whole.

Critical thinking, empathy, spatial awareness, and adaptability are essential. A designer must think holistically and communicate clearly.

My toolbox includes Rhino, SketchUp, Lumion, Adobe Suite, hand sketchbooks, and a curated personal library of design, art, and philosophy books.

Time management is crucial. I structure my day around creative peaks and use project timelines and collaborative tools to maintain flow and discipline.

Depending on complexity, a full design cycle can range from several weeks to a year or more. Conceptual design often takes the longest due to its iterative nature.

The most common question I receive is: “Where do your ideas come from?” My answer is always: everywhere—through observing, reading, and feeling.

One of my most formative experiences was overseeing the full design-build process of a remote villa, from concept to completion. It refined both my technical and emotional understanding of design.

My clients range from private homeowners to developers, hospitality groups, and art foundations, all sharing a commitment to quality and vision.

I most enjoy spatial and interior design because it offers the opportunity to influence the way people live, move, and feel within their environments.

In the near future, I plan to publish a book, establish a research-based design platform, and continue developing context-driven architectural works.

While I design core concepts myself, I collaborate with a team of architects, fabricators, and consultants to refine and realize each project.

I am currently working on a boutique forest retreat that reinterprets regional architecture with sustainable methods—blending craft with contemporary design.

People can contact me through my official website or professional email. I also maintain a presence on design networks and selected social platforms.

Design is a lifelong discipline. It requires silence, clarity, and empathy. I believe that true design is not about impressing—but about expressing what matters.
