Designer Interview

I became interested in interior design because I have always been sensitive to how spaces affect daily life. Over time, I realized that good design is closely connected to understanding people, their habits, and the way they live.
For me, interior design is not about creating a fixed visual style. It is about observing how people use a space, identifying what they truly need, and translating those needs into proportion, circulation, materials, lighting, and details.
This way of thinking eventually led me to establish my own interior design studio and focus primarily on residential projects.

I am one of the founders of Raymu Design, an interior design studio based in Taichung, Taiwan.
Our studio focuses mainly on residential interior design, including new apartments, renovations, pre construction planning, and selected commercial projects.
We are a small design team, which allows us to remain closely involved in every project, from the first conversation and spatial planning to material selection, construction coordination, and completion.
Our work begins with understanding how each client lives. We believe a home should reflect the people who live in it rather than follow a predetermined style.

For me, design is the process of making choices.
Every space contains limitations, needs, and possibilities. My role as a designer is to understand what matters most, remove unnecessary elements, and organize the remaining elements with clarity.
I believe good design should feel natural after people start living in the space. It should support everyday life without constantly demanding attention.

I would suggest spending less time trying to develop a recognizable style too early.
Learn how spaces are built, observe how people actually live, understand construction, and practice listening carefully to clients.
A personal design language will gradually develop through experience and repeated decision making.

Understand before designing.
I try not to decide what a space should look like before understanding who will live there and how they will use it.

For me, a home does not need to follow a specific trend to have character.
I believe the identity of a home gradually comes from the people living there, their habits, objects, memories, and daily routines.
My role as a designer is to provide a clear structure for those things to exist comfortably together.
