Design Legend Interview
23 February 2021
I finished Master's in Industrial Design at the University of Art and Design Cluj Napoca, Romania with a 6 months internship of Architecture and Interior Design in Spain. While studying I worked for Nemo Lighting in Milan, Italy. After the University I gained experience by working as a Furniture Designer and as an Industrial Designer where I was responsible for creating 3D objects for such as important projects as: Ferrari World – Abu Dhabi, UAE/Parque de Atracciones Madrid - Madrid, Spain/Movie Park - Bottrop, Germany/Legoland - Gunzburg, Germany. These experiences helped me to establish Studio11.
I've become a designer because I always liked to draw and I wanted to do something with it. Also because I always have a lots of ideas and solutions for any problems.
I've chose to become.
Furniture and interesting interiors.
A great designer has always his/her style in everything he/she makes. This doesn't mean that everything has to be the same, it means just that even if the projects are very different there is always something, even little details which shows the designer's style.
Good design is if the client is satisfied.
Because it makes easier and more beautiful the everyday life.
I always wanted to work for a big architecture company like BIG Architects or Foster +Partners just to see how they work, for a great experience.
To design my own house.
flexibility
Le Corbusier, Karim Rashid, Masquespacio
A lot of work experience in different kind of design projects. Living in other countries, traveling a lot, these helps to understand different views of people.
Probably an architect or archeologist.
My grandfather was my greatest supporter. I had big luck to have him in my life. He helped me to find what I love and everything important I've learnt I knew from him.
My travels helped me a lot, and also that I was two times with Erasmus at the University where I learned a lot.
Design presentations have to be clear, focused on what they want to show.
Now I am working on an interior design for a sushi restaurant.
All of my projects gave me the same satisfaction. Every one of them was a succes because the clients were happy, and everything was exactly how we decided.
It depends on the project.
I start by consulting the client and analysing the space or product.
Design with purpose.
Both of them. Some designs appear because of the trends, and also some trends appear because of the use of one design style.
Rhinoceros, V-ray for Rhino, Adobe Photoshop, Coreldraw
I think important is to have similar tastes in design, otherwise is difficult to share projects.
Victor Papanek - Design for the real world
By design courses and by reading design articles/books.
I don't have a favourite color or place. My favourite food is anything Italian, pasta in general, summer and winter, as brand I like Ferm living.
Motivates me if I see that I am moving forward with work.
When I was a child there were many things I liked, but one thing which I loved the most was drawing. This never changed, I am very thankful that my work includes this, besides a lot of interesting opportunities which helps me to grow professionally.

Studio11 is a young Interior and Product Design firm based in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The company's mission is to offer complete interior and product design services. Using creativity and proven experience, creates projects that focus on functionality and visual aesthetics through the balance of materials and products used.
To design something is much more than just making renderings. Every time I start a new project, I get myself into it. All the colors, the style and the pieces of furniture give me a unique, personal experience. Every one of them is different. This is what I love about my job.
Furniture design is my favourite, but I also like to design interiors.
Houses designed by Le Corbusier and Arco lamp by Castiglioni.
The first things designed by me for a company were 3D objects for Movie Park, Germany.
At night.

happiness, released
Design is successful if the client is satisfied.
If the design is aesthetically and functionally appropriate for what was made.
I think designers need to focus more on what is necessary and what can help a product to grow.
Design field is very large, but also is difficult to come up with a new idea. So I can say that is still evolving but much slower, than before.
The last exhibition where I was participating was in 2018 Re-think Plastic / Precious Plastic in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The next exhibition will be Romanian Design Week 2021 and I will participate with a new design of mine: Together Chair.
My inspiration is traveling and hiking in nature. Also helps me a lot to go to design fairs and to watch a good artistic movie.
I think companies should look if the designer have the same perspective as theirs.

Do always what you love and what are you good at.
Positive is that I love to work and to see that my ideas are becoming reality. Negative is that sometimes you have to accept some works what you probably do not like, but you can transform in something better.
If it is about interior design, then it would be - to know very well the space and the needs of the client.
To be creative, precise and flexible.
Rhinoceros, V-ray and Photoshop as softwares. And also paper and pencils for drawing.
It depends on the object.
When will be ready?
All of my job experiences were important because every one of them was different and I've learnt many things.
Wincon - construction company, Romania
Kintaro - Sushi Restaurant, Romania

Furniture Design - because it can be very creative
It depends on the period, most of the times I am working alone on the projects, but sometimes I collaborate with other designers.
