Interview with Hola Design

Design Legend Interview

8 November 2025

Monika: We both come from architectural backgrounds, but we’ve devoted the past 20 years to interior architecture. Two decades of experience have been the most valuable school of the profession.

Monika: I’m motivated by creating spaces where people feel good – I’ve always wanted to combine style with comfort.
Adam: I was driven by the desire to design interiors that use modern technology and high precision of execution to enhance living comfort.

Monika: I chose this path consciously – I’ve always been fascinated by space, light, and materials, so interior design was a natural choice.
Adam: Definitely a choice – it wasn’t imposed on me. Designing interiors attracted me, among other reasons, because of its sense of agency.

Monika: We design luxury apartments and villas in many countries. I’m especially proud to promote Polish design abroad.
Adam: Large residences and premium apartments give us the opportunity to combine the most advanced technologies, refined materials, remarkable furniture, accessories, and art objects.

Monika: Learn from established designers, observe people and their needs, and pay attention to detail – that’s key.
Adam: Learn about technology, materials, craftsmanship, and system integration. A legend is someone who combines their chosen aesthetic with flawless execution.

Monika: A good designer meets the client’s requirements; a great one goes beyond them, creating a space above expectations.

Adam: Good design is both functional and visually captivating. Great design is when technology, function, aesthetics, and durability are perfectly intertwined.

Adam: Investing in good design means fewer corrections, higher quality, better durability, and greater user satisfaction – for many years to come.

Monika: I’d design a nature retreat for a family seeking to escape the noise of civilization.

Adam: I’d love to create a technological villa-laboratory for an investor passionate about innovation.

Monika: Empathy – truly listening to the client and understanding their lifestyle. Real needs are often hidden between the lines.

Monika: We’re inspired by designers who combine noble materials, craftsmanship, and timeless beauty with technological courage – like the legendary Mies van der Rohe.

Monika: I value projects where material, light, and space create a sense of harmony – I love observing the perfect connection between nature and interior.
Adam: I’m drawn to designs that present a technical challenge and its clever resolution – then the interior becomes a living device.

Monika: One of our key realizations is a villa surrounded by forest in Konstancin near Warsaw – the interiors there are fully integrated with each other and with their natural surroundings.

Adam: Learn to communicate with clients. Analyze the context of each place. Stay curious about new technologies, materials, and methods.

Monika: I’d probably search for aesthetic values elsewhere, maybe in art.
Adam: I think I would have explored new technologies in construction, vehicle design, or mechanical engineering.

Monika: Design is about creating spaces that serve and inspire.
Adam: For me, design is a system – the integration of technology, material, light, and function into one coherent whole.

Monika: Our support came from the HOLA Design team, family, and investors who believed in our vision.
Adam: Also from contractors, technologists, and international partners – without them, achieving this level of quality and recognition wouldn’t have been possible.

Monika: Openness to travel, global inspiration, and readiness to adapt our work to different cultures.
Adam: Continuous development of technological skills and participation in international projects – it allowed us to operate on a broader stage and at a higher level.

Monika: The world changed rapidly over the last 20 years – new tools, open borders, evolving materials, growing client awareness. But constant adaptation only energized us.

Adam: Transparently – by showing process, materials, function, and atmosphere, not just the visual effect. It builds trust.

Monika: Soon we’ll be realizing a villa in Southern Europe, where landscape and light will define the character of the interiors.

Adam: To create timeless interiors that actively support the users’ well-being.

Monika: They expect not only a design but a full-scope realization with top craftsmanship. And we make sure to deliver it.

Adam: By creating spaces that nurture relationships, comfort, and health – design directly improves quality of life.

Adam: About the villa project merging with its landscape, as mentioned earlier.

Monika: The ones where the client says, “This is my home.” That’s the greatest reward.

Adam: We dream of an industry where sustainability is a standard – without compromising on luxury.

Monika: Toward human-nature integration, everyday comfort, calming aesthetics, and reduced environmental impact.

Adam: It depends on the scale – smaller apartments take a few months, large villas over a year.

Monika: With getting to know the client, their lifestyle, and the character of the place – including its history and local culture.

Monika: “A space you want to live in.”
Adam: “Technology in the service of humanity.”

Monika: Designers can be trendsetters if they’re authentic – but more often our task is to respond to users’ conscious and unconscious needs.
Adam: On the other hand, we adapt to trends set by technological shifts – it’s a dialogue.

Monika: Technology in our studio supports the design process; in the home, it makes life easier. But it should always remain a tool, not a gadget.

Adam: We use advanced CAD/BIM software and 3D visualization programs. But the first sketches are always made on paper – the pencil still thinks best.

Monika: Color and material (including structure, texture, and tactile quality) are the foundations of atmosphere. We use natural palettes, wood, stone, and living greenery.

Monika: I wish they’d ask: “How will this interior improve the user’s life?”

Adam: I wonder how it will serve people in everyday life, for years to come.

Monika: An open-minded person with vision and understanding of function. Yes, I believe in co-design. With Adam, we founded HOLA Design and have been growing it for 20 years.

Monika: Clients, contractors, craftsmen, and artists – we learn something valuable from each of them.

Adam: Books such as Thinking Architecture by Peter Zumthor and The Eyes of the Skin by Juhani Pallasmaa had a profound influence on us. They taught us to perceive architecture not only through form and function, but through emotion, light, and sensory experience.
Monika: These readings helped us understand that interior design is not decoration but a dialogue between space, material, and human presence — something timeless, tactile, and deeply human.

Monika: Through practice, analysis of international projects, global markets, and constant learning.
Adam: The larger the investment scale, the greater the knowledge gained.

Monika: I would love to meet Charlotte Perriand — a woman who turned modernism into something warm, humane, and timeless. Her approach to space as a living organism feels incredibly close to our philosophy.
Adam: I would like to talk with Peter Zumthor about the emotional power of architecture and the invisible dialogue between material, light, and technology. His work proves that innovation and atmosphere can exist in perfect harmony.

Monika: Awards are gratifying, but they come with responsibility – fame isn’t the goal, it’s confirmation of quality.
Adam: Recognition builds credibility, but maintaining high standards is a constant challenge – it’s not an end, but a commitment.

Monika: My favorite colors are natural shades of beige, green, and stone.
Adam: My favorite place is our “Shepherd’s Cabin” in the mountains – it has earned us many awards and strengthened our position in the industry.

Adam: We once designed a pattern using black and white ceramic tiles. To our surprise, the contractor only laid white tiles. He explained that the technical drawings only showed white tiles. He clearly hadn't read the descriptions.

Monika: A good concept, solving a functional or technical issue, discovering a new craft or artwork that fits our clients’ needs – that’s what brings joy.

Monika: Not entirely, but I was always fascinated by interiors, light, and space – maybe it was meant to be.
Adam: As a child, I loved building things – so yes, it was probably a sign.

Monika: In the future, homes will be fully integrated with nature, and “living space” as a concept will disappear – we’ll live in symbiosis.
Adam: A thousand years from now, technology will be invisible, materials will have zero carbon footprint, and designers will become coordinators of human experience.

Monika: Every space we design is a story – of the client, the place, and the moment in time. We care for interiors that are not only beautiful but alive.
Adam: And that for us, technology isn’t an accessory – it’s an essential tool for creating comfort and longevity, where every detail truly matters.

Designer Interview

8 November 2025

Monika: I have been involved in design for many years. I started designing as a result of introspection and searching for what I really want to do in life – what gives me satisfaction, pleasure and joy that I want to share with others. The HOLA Design studio was established shortly after I graduated, out of a passion for creating harmonious, luxurious interiors that combine function with emotion.

Adam:
My path led me from a passion for creation, perfection and a fascination with technology. My fascination with scale, light and materials led me to focus on interior design.

Monika: HOLA Design is a design studio operating in Poland and abroad, specializing in luxury interiors for apartments, villas, and high-end international projects.

Monika: Design is the balance between aesthetics, function, and emotion — creating spaces that reflect the lifestyle and needs of their users.
Adam: In short, design is multidimensional functionality in a beautiful form.

Monika: We most enjoy creating luxury villa and large apartment projects, where we can work with space, light, outstanding industrial design, and art.

Adam: Our favorite projects are those where we were able to merge architecture, interior, and the context of the place — such as the villa in Konstancin near Warsaw, where the interiors are fully integrated with each other and with the surrounding landscape.

Adam: We have been designing residential interiors since 2005, and almost as long public spaces. Which one was first? Probably our friends' apartament. We were delighted that they trusted us, and I think it turned out very well.

Adam: We value large glazing and natural materials that emphasize the relationship between interior, nature, and light — especially noble woods and rare types of stone.

Monika: We are most creative at the conceptual stage — when we merge the client’s needs, their inspirations, and the context of the place.
Adam: Creativity comes when we can work with open space — that’s when the best solutions appear.

Monika: We focus on function, proportion, light, and material selection — these define the final character of the interior.
Adam: I would add: the priority is coherence between architecture and interior, and the user’s comfort.

Monika: Joy — design for me is intense creative engagement.
Adam: Satisfaction and excitement when even the most refined expectations of clients turn into tangible design solutions.

Monika: Enormous satisfaction and pride — especially when the client feels both harmony and comfort of use.
Adam: Joy and relief when every detail of the execution confirms that the design worked exactly as intended.

Monika: Success is the combination of lasting aesthetics, usability, and craftsmanship quality.
Adam: These are what translate, in the long run, into the satisfaction of users.

Adam: We always start with function and ergonomics, only then move to form and style — good looks without usability are just decoration.

Monika: We firmly believe that designers should choose materials and solutions with durability, users’ health, and minimal environmental impact in mind.

Adam: I see it developing toward sustainable, contextual solutions and the fusion of technology with traditional materials. The future is the integration of ecology and longevity in design practice.

Monika: Our projects are presented in international competitions and at industry conferences where we appear as experts — among them 4 Design Days, archiDAY, ARCH_event, Forum Dobrego Designu, and Łódź Design Festival.

Monika: Our inspirations come from nature and travel. We also respond creatively to the architecture of the buildings we work in, we learn from observing artisans, and of course, from the personalities of our clients.

Monika: Our style is quiet luxury — calm color palettes, natural materials, and attention to detail. We approach each project holistically, combining function with elegance.

Monika: We are based in Poland (Warsaw/Gdynia) but work internationally. Our Polish background inspires us to build a dialogue between local traditions of various regions and modernity. We deeply value craftsmanship

Adam: As interior architects, we collaborate closely with contractors — in our case, not in the sense of industrial product implementation, but in the realization of complex interior projects.

Monika: Many excellent Polish product designers create internationally recognized furniture, lighting, and accessories. It’s worth paying attention to their work.

Adam: We start with analyzing the client’s needs and the location, then create mood boards, concepts, and functional layouts. Finally, we move to execution documentation and on-site supervision. The process is structured yet flexible.

Monika: An old wooden table — a piece by an unknown craftsman from a century ago; a family sofa by Grynasz Studio; a large glazing with a garden view — our own design; a mirror of inflated steel by Oskar Zięta; and a fan-shaped lamp by Maja Ganszyniec.

Adam: A day is a mix of client meetings, conceptual work, project coordination, and site visits. And in the evening — a flight to one of our international projects.

Monika: Learn the craft, observe materials and people, be diligent in documentation, and patient in shaping future users’ experiences.

Adam: The positives are the real impact on people’s comfort and the satisfaction from completed projects. The challenge is the responsibility — for process, for people, and for the investors’ budgets.

Monika: Listen carefully to the client, seek unique value in every project, and never compromise on the quality of detail.

Monika: The ability to read the client’s needs — even between the lines; hand drawing, which says more than words; knowledge of the latest materials and technologies; and strong coordination skills.

Adam: We use advanced CAD/BIM software and precise 3D visualization programs. But the first sketches are always made on paper — the pencil still thinks best.

Adam: We assign tasks in the team thoughtfully, considering not only technical skills but also personalities. We keep a very close eye on project timelines.

Monika: It depends on the scale — from a few months (for apartments) to over a year (for large residences and comprehensive projects).

Adam: “How much will it cost?” and “How long will it take?” — those are the most common questions, yet they almost always require deeper analysis before answering.

Monika: Our key experiences were large projects in various countries, which solidified our practice in luxury interior design — supported by numerous prestigious international awards.

Adam: We have worked for private clients seeking luxury solutions and for investors in residential projects, including high-end residences of the most affluent Polish clients at home and abroad.

Monika: We most enjoy designing residences and spacious apartments, where we can express ourselves through multiple layers — from interior architecture and fine craftsmanship to object design and art. That’s what gives us fulfillment.

Adam: We aim to develop further international projects, deepen our work on residential design, and take part in industry initiatives — both as initiators and as experts.

Monika: We work as a team within HOLA — we create all concepts personally, but we realize projects with the support of an experienced team.

Adam: We are currently working on a villa in Spain and several apartments in Warsaw.

Monika: The easiest way is through our website hola-design.pl or directly at +48 509 178 078 / wyceny@hola-design.pl. We warmly invite you to get in touch.

Adam: It’s worth emphasizing that HOLA Design combines interior design with building architecture — within the HOLA Group, we execute projects comprehensively. We are also committed to promoting Polish design abroad.
