Designer Interview

15 May 2019

I have always been fascinated with creativity in all of its forms. A simple mistake in my acceptance letter in university led me to discover the world of graphic design, which I had no idea such a major existed. I always feel that it is destiny that put me on a path which suited me perfectly. Ever since I have never stopped the journey learning and developing my abilities in art and design.

I started an instagram account with the name Hind686, and after a while, I started posting some pictures of my illustrations. As time went by I developed some stationery products to sell and soon enough the name Hind686 was starting to catch on. Hind686 is now a start-up brand for designing a line of stationery products and is aiming to design more stationery products internationally

Design is coming up with creative solutions that lead to better communication. Design to me is a way of life

I really enjoy digital illustration, especially botanicals.

I don't have a specific favorite design. Every day I get to see new piece of art, that becomes a favorite for that day.

A newsletter for the Sport and Youth Ministry in Bahrain

I love using a digital tablet and illustrating in both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator

There isn't a specific time, but I love inviting creativity to come over for a hot cup of tea, a clean and a nice smelling office.

When it affects the receiver in a good way, communicates what the designer aims for. It makes it a good design

Is the message/ purpose clear? does this design contribute to making the life of the receiver better? Are the design basics implemented in the design? this all contributes to judging a design. I won't be calling a design bad, I would say it would need improvements.

To be fully aware of what people and society need, and to continuously expand knowledge and skills, and be aware of design trends. A designer should also try to be as protective of the environment as possible. Earth is our big home,
in the end, we should all share the responsibility of protecting our environment

I haven't had my own exhibition yet. However, I am really looking forward to making it a reality

It is mostly nature and travel that keeps my fire for design and creativity going. I believe inspiration could hit anytime, anywhere regardless, since I like drawing florals a lot, nature plays a major role in feeding my inspiration.

Colorful and whimsical I would say. My color choices in real life tend to get more pastel and light, however, when I am designing I feel that my heart is bursting with rich colors. I also love to read since I was a child, and I adore children books illustration, they give me so much joy just to look at. So this might be the reason for my style being the way it is

I live in Bahrain, an island in the GCC region. Culture definitley plays a major role in my designs. Almost all of the products that I designed are catered to the needs of my society. Bahrain is a very open country, this is a huge plus for designers and artists

I am a full-time employee, working as a graphic designer. I design/create products after working hours. Some companies reach out for me to purchase my products as giveaways for their employees. It gives me great pleasure.

trust the designer to do the job, over guiding the designer makes him/her lose their touch. There are several online portals now for viewing designers portfolio, I think this is really great as it makes it easier for the company to look for for the designer with a suitable skills/ portfolio and take action accordingly.

I usually try to stimulate the idea in my head before putting anything into paper, once I am satisfied with the idea, I start sketching using a pencil and some copy papers (I usually use recycled papers). I scan the sketch and start illustrating digitally, try to enhance as I go. Once I am finished with this stage comes the fun part, COLOR! I tend to have 4 color options of each design I make. It is then being emailed to the press in order for printing.
